摘要： An apparatus (10) for extruding a block product from a feed material. A barrel (12) includes an output end (14). A screw (16) is at least partially disposed within the barrel (12). The screw (16) flows the feed material in the barrel (12) towards the output end (14). A die (18) is in fluid communication with the output end (14) of the barrel (12). The die (18) receives the feed material and heats the feed material to produce the block product. At least one electrically conductive element (22) passes electric current through the feed material to heat the feed material by resistive heating. The feed material may include activated carbon and at least one binder, to produce a carbon block product.

In certain embodiments, a quench tube is provided that includes an inner wall and an outer wall having a channel therebetween for transporting cooling fluid along the quench tube. A passage within the inner surface of the inner wall receives an extruded material through a nozzle formed at an end of the quench tube that delivers the cooling fluid to the extruded material. The channel may be angled at the nozzle to deliver the cooling fluid at an angle with respect to the quench tube, and the quench tube is configured to extend at least in part within an extrusion die.

摘要： A method of forming a filter element is disclosed comprising introducing a mixture into a feeder, the mixture comprising a plurality of susceptor particles and a plurality of polymeric binder particles. The mixture is advanced through the feeder and into a die comprising an excitation portion where eddy currents are induced in the susceptor particles by subjecting the mixture to a high-frequency electromagnetic field, the eddy currents being sufficient to elevate the temperature of the susceptor particles to cause adjacent polymeric binder particles to be heated to at least a softening point. The susceptor particles bind with the heated polymeric binder particles in the die to form a coherent mass. The coherent mass is advanced out of the die and cooled to form the filter element.

摘要： A die plate is provided for an underwater pelletizer. The die plate includes a die plate body and a solid face plate. The downstream face of the die plate body has a plurality of insulation holes drilled therein that reduce the surface area contact between the die plate body and the solid face plate that is secured to the downstream face of the die plate body to form the cutting surface. A circular groove is preferably milled into the downstream face of the die plate body, concentric with the outer perimeter thereof, to create an outer ring and a center boss with flush outer downstream surfaces that together form the downstream face of the die plate body for supporting the solid face plate. The insulation holes and groove are filled with a non-reactive atmosphere such as nitrogen, inert gas(es), a vacuum or a partial vacuum.
