    • A manually actuated liquid sprayer has a ported element selectively movable between a retracted position and an extended position at which the element lies in the path of the spray plume for mitigating the spray. The element has a cylinder with a smooth inner wall defining a turbulence chamber coaxial with the discharge orifice of the nozzle cap to which the element is mounted. A transversely extending perforate wall is located in the cylinder, and has an open port of a size greater than that of the discharge orifice and being coaxial therewith. The element is movable relative to the nozzle cap between the retracted position at which the liquid spray passes through the open port without influence from any portion thereof, and the extended position at which the liquid spray impacts against the smooth inner wall to mix with air in the chamber and passes through the perforate wall to create foam ejected from the element.

    • A foam generation device and method of producing foam wherein an electrical charge is placed upon a foam producing solution or admixture thereof with air. The above admixture is then forced by air pressure through a grounded foam-producing mesh such that foam bubbles are produced at high efficiency. In addition, the turbulence of the air passing through the device may be reduced by a honeycomb section. This honeycomb section in turn may be grounded and the air flow through the device reversed such that already produced foam may be drawn into the device, charged by the grid, and thereafter dissipated upon the honeycomb section.

    • A hand-held apparatus for spraying foam comprises (a) a manually-operated dispensing pump capable of receiving a foamable liquid from a suitable container and ejecting it into the atmosphere through an atomizing nozzle, thereby forming a spray from such liquid and projecting it outwardly from the nozzle in a predetermined spray pattern, and (b) foam-forming device including an air inlet and a screen retained in the path of the spray. The screen can be retained in a foam-forming position by suitable means such as a housing operatively associated with the dispensing pump. Substantially all the spray passes through the foam-forming device without contact except by the screen, thereby generating foam with little modification of the predetermined spray pattern.

    • A foam pump including a diaphragm made of a flexible material defining a mixing chamber and having an inlet and an outlet. An inlet passageway, having a one-way valve therein, is in fluid communication with a reservoir containing a foamable liquid and the inlet. The inlet passageway includes an air inlet and associated one-way valve. The pump includes an outlet passageway, having a one-way valve therein, in fluid communication with the outlet. The foam pump includes an electric motor. that drives a motor driven element to collapse and expand the diaphragm. Expansion of the diaphragm creates a vacuum causing foamable liquid and air to flow into the mixing chamber. Collapsing of the diaphragm causes the liquid and air mixture to be forced out as foam.
