    • A shoe construction is described in which a molded cup is provided with a flange extending outwardly from a top edge of the molded cup. A lasting margin of the upper of the shoe is wrapped around the outwardly extending flange and terminates on an exterior surface of the molded cup. The shoe is constructed such that the wearer's foot rests on an upper surface of a base of the molded cup. The outwardly extending flange is located some distance above the bottom of the wearer's foot. The outwardly extending flange improves lateral stability by resisting the torque created by the horizontal component of the wearer's weight acting against a friction or other force acting at the bottom of the shoe. The variable location of the outwardly extending flange also provides a variety of aesthetic designs for the shoe.

    • A shock-absorbing, air-pumping, vapour-permeable, waterproof shoe comprising a shoe insert, a shoe upper part, an insole and a shoe sole is presented, or such a sole for such a shoe. Many applications devoted to the aspects of 'shock absorption' and 'breathing' of a shoe have become known. While the shock absorption is intended to relieve a person's spinal column of stress, and protect it from being damaged, when the foot makes impact, the breathing shoe prevents the formation of moisture and water inside the shoe on the basis of transpiration by circulation and transportation of moisture to the outside. The innovation is used both in the case of the sole, insole and in the case of an insert sole of a shoe. These properties are essentially achieved by layering of different materials in the region of the sole and of the upper shoe, the materials acting with differing functionality as their shaping differs. Layering with semipermeable materials, for example, achieves the effect that moisture and/or water escapes through the layer on one side, but the ingress of moisture and water in the reverse direction is prevented. Shoes in which correct transpiration is ensured on the basis of an effective exchange of heat and water vapour between the space inside the shoe and the space outside have long been known. However, these shoes at the same time lack the required waterproofness with respect to the ingress of moisture/water from the outside. In the case of the shoe presented, the region of the sole and the region of the shoe upper part are made such that they are completely impermeable to dirt, dust and water from the outside. The final multilayered semipermeable shoe insert, enclosing the shoe upper part, ensures the breathing of the shock-absorbing and air-pumping inner shoe. There are no air outlet holes or slits in the region of the sole or the region of the sides of the shoe that may become filled and clogged with dirt and dust from the outside - even together with water - by the effect of suction after the impact of the foot causes air to be expelled, and as a result become inactive in terms of breathing. The air-pumping insole serves at the same time as a shock absorber.
