    • The present invention relates to a method for producing fodder portions, in which method fodder is unpacked from a fodder bale with an unpacking device for a fodder bale, unpacked fodder is prepressed with a prepressing device mainly into a solid fodder bar, the fodder bar is cut with a cutting device into fodder portions of suitable size, and the weight of fodder portions is measured with a weighing machine located after the cutting device and on grounds of results from the weighing machine the weight and/or the size of fodder portions is automatically regulated. The present invention also relates to an apparatus for producing of fodder portions, which apparatus consists of an unpacking device for unpacking of fodder bales, a prepressing device for prepressing of unpacked fodder into a continuous fodder bar, a cutting device for cutting of a fodder bar into fodder portions and a weighing machine for weighing of cut fodder portions as well as a control device for controlling a cutting device and devices before that as well as for regulating the weight of fodder portions automatically on grounds of weighing results from the weighing machine. In addition, the present invention relates to a fodder portion package, which consists of several at least with one binding element attached fodder portions, in which fodder portions in a fodder portion package have been produced by unpacking fodder from fodder bales with an unpacking device, by prepressing the unpacked fodder into a fodder bar with a prepressing device and by cutting a fodder bar with a cutting device into fodder portions of previously defined weight. Characteristic to the method in accordance with the invention is the fact, that two or more fodder portions are placed into a bundle press one on top of the other and/or adjacent, and that fodder portions placed one on top of the other and/or adjacent are pressed with a bundle press into fodder portions bundles. Characteristic to the apparatus in accordance with the invention is the fact, that the apparatus comprises a bundle press in order to place two or more fodder portions one on top of the other and/or adjacent and to press into fodder portions bundles. Characteristic to a fodder portion package in accordance with the invention is the fact, that in between separate fodder portions there is a detaching area for making it easier to detach fodder portions from each other, and that the detaching area has been formed by pressing two or more fodder portions placed one on top of the other and/or adjacent against each other with a bundle press.

    • The present invention provides an apparatus and method for converting a large bale of hay into a plurality of smaller sized bales having the same nutritional composition and texture as the large bale. The apparatus comprises a first cutting assembly which has a first set of blades which are orthogonally oriented with respect to a second set of blades. The apparatus further comprises a driver head assembly which is used to force a large bale of hay through the first cutting assembly. The apparatus also has a second cutting assembly which comprises a metering knife oriented substantially orthogonal to both the first and second sets of blades of the first cutting assembly. The associated method for processing the large bale fibrous comprises a first step of producing bale sections by pushing the large bale through the first cutting assembly. The method has a second step of producing metered bales through operation of the second cutting assembly. The inventive method further comprises a third step of individually packaging the metered bales.

    • A forage compactor for compressing forage or crop into bales of increased crop density for transportation. A crop feed area feeds crop to a conveyor where it is moved to a scale area for proper bale weight. An indexer severs the crop while moving it from the scale area to the compression chamber. The crop is compressed and moved to a strapping chamber where straps are applied to the compressed crop. The bound bale is manipulated as desired at the product handling area downstream from the strapping. chamber. The crop is provided with substantially constant stress during compression and moisture sensors in the strapping chamber sense the moisture content of the severed crop within the bale to be bound. The weight of the crop within the compression area may be reduced to reduce machine overloading. Keyway plungers provide reduced side loading on the main ram used for crop compression. The feed inlet area is located on the same side of the. compression chamber as the exit chamber to allow for more efficient operation and area utilisation.
