    • An electric motor provided with a multi-layered winding stator core configuration. A plurality of individual layers of wire strands are successively formed on each stator pole of a pole pair. Each winding layer is fabricated of the same relatively thin wire gauge. A first layer is applied directly on a pole and each successive layer is assembled on top of the last previous layer. Each layer of one pole of the pole pair is connected in series with a layer of the other pole of the pole pair to obtain a number of individual series coil connections equal in number to the number of layers. As inductance and resistance characteristics of the layers differ from each other as the layers increase in distance from each pole, layers from one pole of the pole pair are connected to respective layers different in order from that of the other pole pair.

    • A dynamoelectric machine, having a stator and rotor, is enclosed in a sealed housing. An impeller fixed to the rotor shaft creates air circulation through the housing and machine components for contact with one or more sealed containers of a coolant medium. The sealed container provides heat transfer from the circulated air through evaporation of the coolant medium. The sealed container has one closed end located within the housing and another closed end external to the housing. Heat from the evaporated coolant medium is transferred to the environment external to the housing through condensation of the vapor at the external end of the container. The sealed container may be stationary or rotatable with the rotor shaft. A plurality of heat transfer containers may be provided.

    • One or more wheels of an electrically powered vehicle contains a motor comprising a rotor and a stator that is mounted on an integrated structure having a motor stator mounting portion and wheel axle portion. The structure is fabricated from a unitary non-ferromagnetic substance. A rotor housing is journalled to the axle portion on both sides of the motor stator mounting portion via bearings. A wheel assembly can be mounted on the rotor housing to be driven by the motor. Forced-air cooling is provided through a hollow central passage. A plug separates the passage into two distinct sections, an inlet and an outlet. A plurality of cavities, provided with heat exchanger surfaces, are contained within the stator mounting portion. Cooling air enters from one end of the central passage, is directed through the inlet channels, the cavities and outlet channels before exiting through the opposite end of the central passage. Additional channels provide wire connection to the stator.

    • A control system is provided for a multiphase motor having a plurality of stator phase components, each stator phase component comprising a phase winding formed on a core element, and a rotor. A plurality of motor control schemes are stored in memory or calculated dynamically during motor operation. Subject to user or system selection, one of the motor control schemes is selected by a controller for implementation. The controller generates control signals that are applied to energization circuitry for supplying current to the phase windings with a particular current waveform profile in accordance with the selected motor control scheme. The controller has an input terminal for receiving a user initiated torque command signal representing a desired motor torque. Each motor control scheme provides motor driving current that corresponds to torque command signals received at the controller input terminal. In an automatic mode, the controller accesses the appropriate control scheme to meet the torque tracking requirements of the system.
