摘要： Methods and apparatus for enhanced and improved viscous oil recovery are disclosed. A horizontal well is drilled through the viscous oil formation. A specially designed steam stinger is used to inject steam substantially uniformly into the entire horizontal extent of the well borehole without direct steam impingement on the production liner in the viscous oil formation. Heat from the steam mobilizes and lowers the viscosity of the heavy crude wherein the crude is then produced to the surface via conventional lift arrangements.

摘要： Methods and apparatus are disclosed for reducing lifting costs in a producing hydrocarbon well by injecting produced water into a set of injection perforations located lower in the well borehole from a set of production perforations. A plunger pump and a cage-ball valve system are placed above a production packer which is located between the production and injection perforations. The valve system and pump are arranged to take produced water from above the packer and pump into the injection perforations only on the downstroke of the rod string activated plunger pump.

摘要： Systems are disclosed for securing near vertically deployed seismic detector systems in a cased well borehole from oscillatory motion during a seismic survey. In one embodiment a generally cylindrical body member of an unsymmetrical shape having one flat side is used opposite a selectably extensible backup locking arm. In a second embodiment a generally symmetrical cylindrical body member having sets of four essentially coplanar contacting feet disposed at 90 degree circumferential spacing an opposite ends is provided. The sets of locking feet on opposite ends of the tool body member are phased 45 degrees apart circumferentially with respect to each other. Locking edges and feet may be magnetically assisted if desired.

摘要： Methods for completing and producing hydrocarbon from a well having a highly permeable production formation having a water zone and a hydrocarbon zone are disclosed. In the disclosed techniques a cased well borehole is cemented in place through the production formation. A packer is set in the casing to isolate the hydrocarbon zone from the water zone. Perforations in the water zone and in the hydrocarbon zone produce a mixture of both fluids into the casing/tubing annulus at different bottom hole pressures (FBHP's) due to the installation of a flow restriction limiting the flow of either hydrocarbon or water into the tubing string. Artificial lift means are used to produce the fluid mixture to the surface.

The system includes a pump having an operating chamber containing a working fluid and a pumping chamber for pumping material into and out of the pump and a diaphragm separating the operating and pumping chambers. A first optic fiber is joined to the operating chamber for transmitting an optic signal across the working fluid. A second optic fiber is joined to the operating chamber for receiving the optic signal from the first optic fiber. An electric signal establishing device establishes a first electrical signal when the optic signal from the first optic fiber to the second optic fiber passes through uncontaminated working fluid. The electric signal establishing device establishes a second electrical signal when the optic signal from the first optic fiber to the second optic fiber passes through contaminated working fluid, whereby leakage of a contaminating material through the diaphragm into the operating chamber can be detected when the second electrical signal is established.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method for minimizing hydrogen halide corrosion in quench gasifier during the non-catalytic partial oxidation reaction of a halogen-containing hydrocarbonaceous feed, to produce a hydrogen halide-containing synthesis gas, finely divided particulate solids, and a nontoxic slag. The hydrogen halide-containing synthesis gas is contacted with water in the quench zone of the gasifier. The quench water contains a neutralizing agent, in excess of the amount necessary to neutralize hydrogen halide acids present therein, to thereby form halide salts. The quench water containing the halide salts is purified to recover the halide salts. The salt-free water is essentially environmentally non-toxic and can either be recycled to the process or discarded in conformity with environmental regulations.
