摘要： A bidirectional optical subassembly, an optical transceiver including the same, and methods of making and using the same are disclosed. The optical subassembly includes a photodiode configured to receive an incoming optical signal, a transmitter configured to transmit an outgoing optical signal, and a passive optical signal processing unit including a filter and a mirror. The filter is at a first predetermined angle relative to an optical path of the outgoing optical signal and is configured to (i) reflect one of the outgoing optical signal and the incoming optical signal and (ii) allow the other of the outgoing optical signal and the incoming optical signal to pass through. The mirror is configured to reflect the one of the outgoing optical signal and the incoming optical signal at a second predetermined angle. The first predetermined angle is adapted to reduce filter insertion losses.

摘要： Optical multiplexers, optical demultiplexers, optical modules including the same, and methods of making and using the same are disclosed. The optical multiplexers include first and second structural blocks and a beam combiner. The first and second structural blocks each include at least one mirror and at least one filter, and are configured to combine a plurality of individual optical signals into a multi-channel optical signal. The beam combiner includes one or more mirrors and one or more filters, and is configured to combine the multi-channel optical signals into a further multi-channel optical output signal having the same number of channels as the multi-channel optical signals. The optical demultiplexers are structurally similar to the optical multiplexers, but provide a complementary or reverse function. The present multiplexers and demultiplexers reduce skew and/or accumulation of the geometric error over the channels in the multi-channel optical signal output from the multiplexer or input into the demultiplexer.

摘要： An optical or optoelectronic receiver, an optoelectronic transceiver including the same, and a method and system for protecting a photodetector in the same are disclosed. The method of protecting a photodetector generally includes providing a control voltage to the photodetector so that a current flows through the photodetector, and determining that a transient event has occurred or a transient state exists in the receiver. During the transient event or transient state, the method maintains the control voltage at a normal operating voltage when the current through the photodetector is at or below a predetermined threshold current, and switches the control voltage to a safe mode voltage when the current through the photodetector is above the predetermined threshold current.

摘要： An optical or optoelectronic receiver and module, and methods of making and using the same, are disclosed. The receiver includes a photodetector, a first microelectromechanical device configured to reflect a multi-wavelength optical signal, a thin film filter configured to receive the multi-wavelength optical signal reflected by the first microelectromechanical device and separate a single-wavelength optical signal from the multi-wavelength optical signal, a first lens configured to focus the single-wavelength optical signal on the photodetector, and a second microelectromechanical device configured to reflect the single-wavelength optical signal towards the first lens. Each wavelength of the multi-wavelength optical signal represents or corresponds to a unique channel over which the receiver receives optical signals. The present receiver and methods enable low-cost, high-volume manufacturing of multi-channel optical or optoelectronic receivers.

摘要： An N×N parallel optical transceiver includes a printed circuit board, a laser driving control chip, one or more lasers, two GRIN lenses, an optical band-pass filter, a multimode fiber array and a photodiode array. In the transmitter, laser beams of the same wavelength simultaneously output from the laser chip are first focused by the first GRIN lens, then the beams pass through a wavelength band-pass filter and are refocused by the second GRIN lens, and enter the channels in the multimode fiber array. In the receiver, laser beams of a different wavelength from the multimode fiber array are focused by the second GRIN lens, then reflected by the band-pass filter, refocused by the second GRIN lens, and received by the photodiode array. The multi-channel parallel transceiver has a small form, and can integrate a DFB or FP laser chip and GRIN lenses.

摘要： An EMI shielding device for an optical transceiver is disclosed. The EMI shielding device includes a shell with an optical and electrical interfaces al opposed ends. The shell includes a base and an upper cover. The upper cover includes a plate having at least two flanks, each having a lateral plate that extends downward. The base includes a base plate having at least two flanks, each having a base side baffle. The upper covet plate is located between the base side baffles. The lower ends or surfaces of the upper cover lateral plates have serrations thereon. A conductive gasket under the serrations contacts the base. The conductive gasket and the serrations result in reliable multipoint contact between the upper cover lateral plates and the base, thereby providing reliable electrical continuity between the upper cover and the base, and reducing electromagnetic leakage.

The first modulator has a first anode and a first cathode, and the second modulator has a second anode and a second cathode electrically isolated from the first anode and the first cathode. The modulators (and optionally the light sources) are on a common substrate. A method of transmitting optical signals generally includes modulating light emitted from a first light source using a first modulator, and modulating light emitted from a second light source using a second modulator, where the first modulator receives a first modulation signal, and the second modulator receives a second modulation signal electrically isolated from the first modulation signal.

The laser may be manufactured by forming a lower semiconductive buffer layer on a substrate, an active layer including one or more quantum well layers having the variable energy bandgap on or above the lower semiconductive buffer layer, an upper semiconductive buffer layer on or above the active layer, a contact layer on or above the upper semiconductive buffer layer, and an isolation region separating the light emission region and the modulation region.
