    • A system for controlling a transmission of a vehicle includes an engine control module that generates a command, while the vehicle is rolling in either a forward or reverse direction, to change a transmission of the vehicle from a reverse drive gear to a forward drive gear. The transmission includes a first clutch, a second clutch, a third clutch, and a fourth clutch. A transmission control module, in response to the command, maintains a first clutch in an engaged state, releases a second clutch and a fourth clutch, with the first clutch in the engaged state and the second clutch and the fourth clutch released, applies a third clutch with a synchronizer to engage the third clutch, and, after the third clutch is engaged, reapplies the fourth clutch to engage the fourth clutch.

    • A dual clutch assembly includes a housing, an actuation member rotationally coupled with the housing, a first member coaxial with the housing, and a second member coaxial with the first member. A first clutch includes a first plate connected with the actuation member and a second plate connected for common rotation with the first member. A second clutch includes a first plate connected with the housing and a second plate connected for common rotation with the second member. At least one first lever is pivotally coupled to the housing. The first lever is pivotable to contact the actuation member thereby translating the actuation member and the first plate towards the second plate in order to engage the first clutch. The second lever is pivotable to contact the first plate of the second clutch and translate the first plate towards the second plate in order to engage the second clutch.

    • A low noise, high efficiency solenoid pump includes a housing containing a hollow electromagnetic coil. Within the coil resides a pump assembly defining a tubular body having a pair of opposed ends which respectively include an inlet or suction port and an outlet or pressure port and within which a plunger or piston resides. The piston is biased in opposite directions by a pair of opposed compression springs. A first compression spring limits and arrests travel of the piston during the suction or return stroke and a second compression spring limits travel of the piston during the pumping stroke and returns the piston after the pumping stroke. The piston includes a first check valve that opens to allow hydraulic fluid into a pumping chamber during the suction stroke and closes during the pumping stroke to cause fluid to be pumped out of the pumping chamber. A second check valve opens to allow pumped fluid to exit the pumping chamber and the pump body through the outlet or pressure port and closes to inhibit reverse flow.

    • An improved method and apparatus for detecting end-of-fill at a hydraulic clutch in an automatic transmission with a variable force solenoid are provided. The method includes: initiating clutch fill mode by commanding a high current to the solenoid whereby a high fluid pressure is delivered to the clutch apply volume; monitoring clutch fill time; determining if the fill time is greater than a threshold fill time; monitoring the current (e.g., actual and filtered) being actively drawn by the solenoid during clutch fill mode in response to the fill time being greater than the threshold fill time; detecting if an aberration occurs in the current; and stopping distribution of fluid to the hydraulic clutch in response to the current aberration. Detecting if an aberration occurs preferably includes determining a change in instantaneous armature velocity, and determining if the change in instantaneous velocity is greater than a threshold change in armature velocity.
