    • IMS networks and methods are disclosed for storing information on the access network of a user in a subscriber profile for the user. When a communication device of a user attempts to register with an IMS network, a P-CSCF receives a register request message from the communication device, and identifies access network information for the user. The P-CSCF then transmits another register request message to an S-CSCF that includes the access network information, and the S-CSCF in turn forwards the access network information to an HSS. The HSS then stores the access network information in the subscriber profile for the user. Nodes in the IMS network that retrieve the subscriber profile may acquire the access network information to provide services based on the access network information.

    • In an example method of configuring an adaptive module for an offline charging system, a selection is received which selects one of a plurality of charging functions. In an example, the selection is received in response to a user prompt. In another example, the plurality of charging functions includes a charging data function (CDF), a charging gateway function (CGF), an integrated CDF/CGF without Ga interface support and an integrated CDF/CGF with Ga interface support. An adaptive module is configured to conform with the selected charging function. The adaptive module has the capacity to conform to any one of the plurality of charging functions. For example, the adaptive module includes a number of program modules and the configuring step selects which of the program modules are enabled and an order in which the enabled program modules are to be executed. The configured adaptive module is executed at a physical entity (e.g., a CDF, a CGF, etc.) within the offline charging system.

    • This invention relates to a method and apparatus for returning custom greetings to callers of a station that is not answering a telecommunications call. The greeting can be a specific message for one caller, while other callers receive a standard greeting. Callers are identified by incoming calling line identification or by a uniform resource identifier. The message can be time sensitive so that it is activated only at specified times. The message can also be used to elicit a request from the caller to access data in the called party's database. Advantageously, special messages can be left for individual callers without disturbing the normal answering process.

    • This invention relates to a feature for controlling resellers of telecommunications services. A service provider may freeze the accounts, and therefore service, for all customers of a reseller if that reseller is behind on payments to the service provider. In one preferred embodiment, all customers of a reseller are identified with a reseller identification field in the customer's data stored by the service provider. When the service provider issues a freeze order, the account records for all customers of the reseller, identified by the reseller identification stored for each customer, are set into a frozen state wherein these customers cannot initiate or receive calls; after the frozen state is removed, the various promotions allotted to each customer are reinstated. Advantageously, the threat of freezing service to the customers of the reseller is a potent weapon to force the reseller to pay the service provider.

    • Communication networks and associated methods are disclosed that provide third party charging for SIP sessions. A communication network of the invention comprises a session control function (e.g., an IMS CSCF), a network node (e.g., an IMS application server), and a charging system. The session control function serves a SIP session initiated between a first and second party. The network node identifies a third party to charge for the session. The network node includes a third party identifier for the third party in a SIP message for the session, and transmits the SIP message to the session control function. The session control function generates a charging message, maps the third party identifier to the charging message, and transmits the charging message that includes the third party identifier to the charging system. The charging system then initiates charging of the session to the third party based on the third party identifier.

The system includes a Vortex Rule Engine (VRE), which includes handling instructions for routing CDRs, and a CDR routing unit. The CDR routing unit receives a CDR, sends a query to the VRE for handling instructions relating to the received CDR, and routes the CDR based on the handling instructions received from the VRE in response to the query. The method includes the steps of receiving a CDR from a charging data function (CDF), sending a query relating to the CDR to a vortex rule engine (VRE), and routing the CDR to a storage location based on instructions received from the VRE.

    • IMS networks and methods are disclosed for securing media streams for IMS sessions. A CSCF of an IMS network receives a registration message, such as a SIP Register message, from user equipment (UE) of an IMS subscriber indicating whether the UE supports media security. The CSCF then forwards a registration message, such as a Diameter MAR, to a subscriber database that includes a header parameter also indicating that the UE supports media security. A media security system generates media security information (e.g., algorithms, keys, etc), and the subscriber database transmits a response message, such as a Diameter MAA, to the CSCF that includes a header parameter for the media security information. The CSCF transmits a response message, such as a SIP 200 OK message, to the UE that includes a header parameter for the media security information.
