    • A portable information terminal has at least a programming ROM, a work RAM, a data storage memory, an input key, a liquid crystal display panel, a liquid crystal driving control circuit, a built-in battery, and a central processing unit which is operated by using the programming ROM and the work RAM and displays data in the data storage memory on the liquid crystal display panel. Further, the portable information terminal comprises a switching control circuit which outputs a switching signal in accordance with an input signal from an external computer apparatus connected to the terminal, a control signal switching circuit which switches an address bus, a data bus and memory control signal lines which are connected to the central processing unit to an address bus, a data bus and memory control signal lines which are connected to the external computer apparatus in accordance with the switching signal in order to access the data storage memory from the external computer apparatus, and a serial signal switching circuit which switches a PCMCIA bus control signal to a serial signal in accordance with an input signal from a serial interface device which is connected between the portable information terminal and the external computer apparatus. Still further, the portable information terminal comprises a recognition circuit which recognizes the serial interface device and a PCMCIA standard female connector which is connected to the serial connector which is connected to the serial interface device.

    • A rotary valve is supported on a rotary shaft for an integral rotation. The rotary valve has a suction passage and a discharge passage. The suction passage connects a cylinder bore with a suction chamber according to the rotation of the rotary valve when a piston is in the suction stroke. The discharge passage connects the cylinder bore with a discharge chamber according to the rotation of the rotary valve when the piston is in the discharge stroke. The discharge passage includes a first passage and a second passage. The second passage communicates with the cylinder bore after the first passage has communicated with the cylinder bore after the first passage has communicated with the cylinder bore according to the rotation of the rotary valve. A discharge valve is mounted on the rotary valve. The discharge valve selectively opens and closes the first passage according to the difference between the pressures in the cylinder bore and in the discharge chamber.

    • A piston type compressor is disclosed, which includes pistons disposed in bores of a cylinder block, to be reciprocated by a piston driving mechanism in cooperation with a drive shaft. A valve receiving chamber is formed around the drive shaft in the cylinder block, for receiving a rotary valve to rotate together with the drive shaft. The rotary valve has a suction passage formed therein for providing gases from a gas suction chamber to a compression chamber defined in each bore. A plurality of communication passages are formed in the cylinder block in association with the compression chambers, to provide gas communication between the compression chambers and the valve's suction passage. A bypass passage is formed on the rotary valve, and permits one communication passage, associated with one of the compression chambers which is at a final stage of a compression stroke, to communicate with another communication passage, associated with another compression chamber which is at a start stage of the compression stroke. The compressor further includes a device, provided on an outer surface of each piston, for catching gas axially leaking along the outer surface of the piston. The gas catching device guides gas, caught by the gas catching device at the final stage of the compression stroke, to the communication passage corresponding to its associated compression chamber.
