    • Provided is a handoff processing method including measuring a moving speed of a mobile terminal; measuring a size of a data packet generated in an application layer; measuring quality of a data transmission channel of the mobile terminal; calculating a maximum handoff delay time based on a relation between the moving speed and the data packet's size; estimating a handoff occurrence time point, based on a relation between a variation of the quality of the data transmission channel and the quality of the data transmission channel; and calculating a packet size and a moving speed of the mobile terminal that can minimize a delay due to a handoff occurrence by taking account of a handoff delay time according to the size of the data packet generated in the application layer and a moving speed of the mobile terminal into consideration, and providing the calculated packet size and moving speed.

    • A GE-PON (Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network) system and media access control method for the same are disclosed. In the GE-PON system, by employing MAC attributes of the gigabit Ethernet frames, an OLT (Optical Line Termination) transmits a downstream window containing both a control frame having timeslot position and size information in association with at least two ONUs and Ethernet frames to an ODN (Optical Distribution Network). The OLT analyzes contents of RAUs in an upstream window transmitted from the ONUs in a TDMA method and received from the ODN, and permits timeslot position and size corresponding to each of the ONUs. A plurality of ONUs, connected to the ODN, have their respective timeslot position and size allocated in response to their respective information contained in the control frame of the downstream window. RAU frames are transmitted having queue information and Ethernet frames associated with the allocated timeslots. As a result, by the above MAC structure of the GE-PON system, the OLT can be quickly intercommunicated with a plurality of ONUs.

    • A bottom level detection device is disclosed for a burst mode optical receiver. The receiver includes a converter for converting a burst mode signal into a voltage signal and an automatic gain controller for automatically controlling a gain of the converter. The bottom level detection device detects a bottom level of an output signal from the converter and controls the automatic gain controller on the basis of the detected bottom level. The bottom level detection device includes an amplification circuit for receiving the output signal from the converter at its first input terminal and a fed-back output signal from the device at its second input terminal, respectively, and amplifying a difference between the received signals, a detector for detecting a bottom level of an output signal from the amplification circuit, and an output buffer. The detector includes an RC rectifier for receiving a power supply voltage, and a transistor having its emitter connected to an output terminal of the amplification circuit and its base and collector connected in common to the RC rectifier.
