    • A voicemail system apparatus produces a voicemail notification message corresponding to a voicemail message received and saved at a voicemail system, and causes the voicemail notification message to be sent to a mobile device. Subsequently, the apparatus causes a voicemail deletion notification message to be sent to the mobile device, where the voicemail deletion notification message indicates that the voicemail message will be deleted by the voicemail system. In response to expiration of a voicemail message time expiration period associated with the voicemail message, the apparatus deletes the voicemail message at the voicemail system. On the other hand, prior to expiration of the voicemail message time expiration period, and in response to receiving a save command from the mobile device for resaving the voicemail message, the apparatus saves the voicemail message at the voicemail system and updates the voicemail message time expiration period.

    • In a wireless communication device in which a removable user identity module (R-UIM) (310) having a temporary mobile station identity (TMSI) (330) assigned thereto is moved from a mobile equipment (ME) having an electronic serial number (ESN1) (320) to a different ME (305) having a different ESN2 (315), a method for ESN rebinding is provided. The method includes determining a change in insertion status for the R-UIM (400). Once the R-UIM is inserted into a different ME having a different ESN, a registration is initiated (410) using an address type which is different than the TMSI address type assigned to the R-UIM. Preferably, a registration is initiated by transmitting a Registration Message (350) containing an international mobile station identity (IMSI) (370) associated with the R-UIM and the different ESN2 (315) associated with the different ME (305) to a base station (390). If the registration is determined to be successful (415), the assigned TMSI (330) is then bound to the new ESN2 (315). Conversely, if the registration is determined to be unsuccessful (415), the existing TMSI is deleted (420) from the R-UIM memory (325). The present method keeps the infrastructure, i.e. the base stations, informed as to a new ESN associated with a subscription on an R-UIM. The present method facilitates successful authentications and reverse link transmissions from the mobile station on the reverse link channel.

    • A method and system are disclosed where both a mobile station (105) and the infrastructure logically treat all access probes of an access attempt as if they were transmitted to a first base station (101). This is accomplished by having the mobile station (105) store both the registration parameters received from the first base station (101) to which an access probe is transmitted and a characteristic, such as the PN offset, of the first base station (101). When the mobile station (105) determines that it should perform an access probe handoff, it transmits an access probe to a different base station, identifying in the probe the characteristic, such as the PN offset, of the first base station (101). This allows the infrastructure to identify the base station that the mobile station (105) intends to register with. When the mobile station (105) receives acknowledgment to the access attempt, it then updates its registration variables with respect to the parameters received from the first base station (101).
