    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the residence time of a liquid and to prevent the deposition of scales in the inside of a mixer and a settler by extracting water-soluble org. compds. in an oil phase with water and using a liquid cyclone type settler to separate the oil phase from the water phase. SOLUTION: This device consists of a static mixer and a liquid cyclone type settler. In the settler, a mixed liquid of an oil phase and a water phase is supplied at a high flow rate in the tangential direction of the outer circumference of a cylindrical container to separate a heavy liquid to the peripheral direction by centrifugal force. The oil phase and the water phase in which the mixture liquid is sufficiently mixed in the static mixer to extract water-soluble org. compds. contained in the oil phase, is supplied to the liquid cyclone type settler from a liquid inlet 1 at about a 0.5 to 6.0 m/s liquid velocity in the tangential direction in order to easily separate the oil phase from the water phase by centrifugal force. The oil phase is discharged from an exit 2 at the top of the device while the water phase is discharged from a lower exit 3. Thus, the residence time of the liquid in the case of the separation of the oil phase from the water phase can be shortened. the extraction rate of the water-soluble org. compds. is maintained high and the deposition of scales in the inside of the mixer and the settler can be prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a brake having excellent strength, toughness, wear resistance, oxidation resistance, etc., by using a carbonaceous composite material consisting of inorganic fibers obtained from specific polycyclic aromatic polymers as reinforcing materials and an inorganic substance having the same composition as that of the fiber as matrix. CONSTITUTION:One or more selected from (A) an inorganic fiber which is obtained from a silicon-containing polycyclic aromatic polymer and comprise a carbonaceous material showing a crystal arranged state of radial structure, etc., derived from a polycyclic aromatic compound, crystalline carbon in a non-orientated state and a Si-C-O substance and (B) an inorganic fiber which is obtained from a metal-containing polycyclic aromatic polymer and comprise a carbonaceous material in a crystal arranged state, crystalline carbon in a non-orientated state and a Si-M-C-O substance (M is Ti, Zr or Hf) are prepared. The fibers are used as a reinforcing material and a carbonaceous inorganic substance having the same composition as that of the component A or the component B is utilized as matrix to give the title carbonaceous composite material. Then the composite material is used to produce a brake.
