    • A device for suppressing ambient sounds from speech received by a microphone array is provided. One embodiment of the device comprises a microphone array, a processor, an analog-to-digital converter, and memory comprising instructions stored therein that are executable by the processor. The instructions stored in the memory are configured to receive a plurality of digital sound signals, each digital sound signal based on an analog sound signal originating at the microphone array, receive a multi-channel speaker signal, generate a monophonic approximation signal of the multi-channel speaker signal, apply a linear acoustic echo canceller to suppress a first ambient sound portion of each digital sound signal, generate a combined directionally-adaptive sound signal from a combination of each digital sound signal by a combination of time-invariant and adaptive beamforming techniques, and apply one or more nonlinear noise suppression techniques to suppress a second ambient sound portion of the combined directionally-adaptive sound signal.

    • An emergency call method includes the following blocks: a User Equipment (UE) sends an emergency attach request that establishes an emergency indication to a System Architecture Evolution (SAE) network; the SAE network selects an emergency call service entity for the UE after receiving the emergency indication; the UE sends an emergency call request to the emergency call service entity after getting attached to the SAE network emergently; and the emergency call service entity establishes an emergency voice bearer, whereupon the UE makes an emergency call according to the established emergency voice bearer. Through the method for simulating a Circuit Switched (CS) emergency call by means of an emergency call service entity in the SAE network, the emergency call service can be implemented in the SAE or Long Term Evolution (LTE) packet network.

    • A disk drive includes a drive circuitry, a storage disk and a slider having a slider body. The storage disk has a data surface, and the slider magnetically interacts with the storage disk to transmit a signal between the storage disk and the drive circuitry. The slider includes a leading surface, an opposed trailing surface, a data transducer positioned near the trailing surface, and a piezoelectric element. The piezoelectric element receives a driving voltage from the drive circuitry to adjust a distance between the data transducer and the data surface. The slider includes a piezoelectric element supporter having a modulus of elasticity of less than that of the slider body and/or the piezoelectric element. In one embodiment, the piezoelectric element supporter is positioned between the slider body and the piezoelectric element and/or the data transducer. Further, in this embodiment, the piezoelectric element may or may not have one or more exposed surfaces.

    • An electronic device and a method for automatically converting text to be displayed on a display screen of an electronic device into a speech signal when ambient light conditions affect viewing of the text. The method is performed by the electronic device and the method includes receiving a command to display text on the display screen and determining if an ambient light signal provided by an ambient light sensor is above a pre-determined viewing threshold. This ambient light signal corresponds to ambient light conditions adjacent the display screen. The method also includes automatically converting the text to a speech signal when the ambient light signal is above the pre-determined viewing threshold. Suitably, there is performed a step of emitting the speech signal in an audible form from a speaker.

    • A test circuit for an electronic device including a liquid crystal display (LCD) device. The LCD device includes a pulse width modulator (PWM) to provide voltages to a display panel of the LCD device, a plurality of feedback circuits to output feedback voltages to the PWM, and a power supply to provide an operating voltage for the PWM. When the electronic device is in a test mode, the feedback circuits respectively decrease the feedback voltages, such that the PWM increases the voltages output to the display panel according to the feedback voltages, the increased voltages reach predetermined test voltages and test the electronic device.
