    • A display device is provided with a display panel; first to n-th cascade-connected drivers (n being an integer of two or more); a controller transmitting compressed image data to the first driver. The i-th driver of the first to n-th drivers includes a drive circuitry driving the display panel; a first bus adapted to data transfer to the (i+1)-th driver of the first to n-th drivers; a second bus adapted to data transfer to the driver circuitry; and a decompression section receiving the compressed image data from the (i−1)-th driver of the first to n-th drivers or the controller. The decompression section of the i-th driver transfers the received compressed image data to the (i+1)-th driver through the first bus thereof, when the received compressed image data are not associated with the i-th driver. When the received compressed image data are associated with the i-th driver, the decompression section of the i-th driver decompresses the received compressed image data to generate decompressed image data and feeds the decompressed image data to the drive circuitry through the second bus. The drive circuitry drives the display panel in response to the decompressed image data.

    • A control driver for a liquid crystal display panel includes: an operation circuit, an LUT (Look-up Table), and a linear interpolation D/A converter. The operation circuit performs a certain operation on input image data to generate operation data, and outputs higher order bit data and lower order bit data of the operation data. The LUT includes a V-T (Voltage-Transmittance) characteristic of the liquid crystal display panel, and outputs first output data and second output data as display data based on the higher order bit data and the V-T characteristic. The linear interpolation D/A converter performs an linear interpolation operation and D/A conversion to generate output voltage supplied to the liquid crystal display panel in response to the first output data, the second output data and the lower order bit data.

The controller driver 15 drives the LCD panel 13 in response to the image data received from the CPU 11 via an interface signal line 18, while supplying the brightness control signal 21 for controlling the backlight 17 to the backlight driver 16.

    • A controller-driver, a method of driving the controller-driver, and a method of processing image data enabling scroll or other various functions without adding a storage capacity of a display memory nor increasing power consumption. A built-in display memory having a capacity of one frame (H pixels×V pixels×the number of bits) is partitioned into a plurality of memories according to an image type. High order bits are then stored in a first display memory 7a and high order bits of the next frame or low order bits are stored in a second display memory 7b by using a first selector 8 to a third selector 10 controlled by a memory control circuit 6 before they are read out. Thereby, high-level image data of one frame can be displayed when the scroll function is not used and image data of a plurality of frames can be displayed without accessing an image drawing unit 1 when the scroll function is used, thereby reducing power consumption.
