    • A tuning system for a television receiver includes fine tune memories and tuning information memories having reference channel nominal tuning information for each frequency band and increment tuning information representing the tuning voltage differences between successive channels. Accumulator means add the reference channel tuning information and increment information to develop the nominal tuning voltage for any selected channel. Control logic, including channel number counters and latches and state counters, is coupled to the accumulator means, tuning information memories and the fine tune memories. The memories' and accumulator means' outputs are coupled to a corresponding plurality of comparators which are also coupled to counters for deriving pulse-width modulated (PWM) signals corresponding to tuning information in the accumulator means and memories. The PWM signals are supplied to a tuning voltage generator where they are combined to produce the final tuning voltage for the tuner. The increment tuning information is representative of the slope of the tuning curve at each of the channel tuning points and is used to equalize any auxiliary tuning voltage source. The final tuning voltage consists of the derived nominal tuning voltage combined with the product of the fine tune voltage and channel increment tuning information.

    • A separable fastener is disclosed which has the form of a tape having a plurality of laterally adjacent uniformly corrugated strips. Adjoining strips are staggered relative to one another so that the ridges of one strip are laterally aligned with the depressions or spaces between the ridges of adjoining strips, with the adjoining strips being joined together at their cross-over points. A second tape of identical construction can be joined to the first tape by merely pressing the two tapes together in a face-to-face relationship. There is also disclosed apparatus and a method for manufacturing the separable fastener which includes means for passing a strip of thermoplastic material through mutually engaging rolling dies which create the corrugations.

    • A signal recognizing television tuning system employing a varactor tuner controlled by a ramp voltage source. A counter sequentially supplies channel number information for changing the ramp voltage until the tuner is tuned to receive only signals falling within a restricted frequency range corresponding to the selected channel number. Signal recognition means stop further advance of the counter upon recognition of a television signal. If no television signal is recognized, the counter is advanced and generates a next sequential channel number. An illegal channel number detector causes the counter to automatically advance to the next channel number whenever a non FCC allocated channel number appears.

    • An electronic all-channel television tuning system has a channel number computer including a presettable counter for deriving the number of the receivable television channel by counting, on a continuing sample basis, the tuner local oscillator frequency. The local oscillator frequency is varied by a voltage ramp circuit under the control of a comparator. The derived channel number is supplied to one input of the comparator, and a channel number selector supplies an encoded desired channel number both to the other comparator input and to a decoder for determining the appropriate frequency band in which the signal corresponding to the desired channel number lies. The decoder develops and supplies signals to establish for the presettable counter appropriate preset information corresponding to each of the four disconnected FCC frequency bands.

    • To improve operability by a user in a case of performing data transfer wirelessly in a near area, a near-field wireless communication circuit 10 included in a terminal 1A is able to switch between a normal mode to perform OFDM and a near mode with a relatively short communicable distance as compared with that in the first communication mode and to perform spread spectrum. A controller 13 executes preliminary processing needed for initiating data transfer in the near mode with a terminal 1B serving as a communication destination between the terminals 1A and 1B by using the near-field wireless communication circuit 10 which is set to the normal mode. Further, the controller 13 determines availability of the data transfer in the near mode with the terminal 1B by using a measured value of communication quality which has a correlation with a communication distance to the terminal 1B as a measure of the determination. Furthermore, when it is determined that the data transfer in the near mode is available, the controller 13 initiates the data transfer with the terminal 1B by using the near-field wireless communication circuit 10 which is set to the near mode, based on a result of the preliminary processing executed in the normal mode in advance.
