    • The present invention discloses constructs and methods for transmitting a HARQ re-transmission in an adaptive manner in a wireless communication system. The system of the present invention discloses: scheduling the re-transmission of a data packet, based on decoding results from a receiver; determining a plurality of parameters for re-transmission in an adaptive manner; sending an assignment message if required; using a plurality of fields in the assignment message for re-transmission to indicate the plurality of parameters in the re-transmission; using a MACID field in the assignment message for re-transmission to indicate a target mobile station for the re-transmission; transmitting a data packet for the re-transmission; and decoding the data packet at the receiver to determine if a further need of re-transmission exists.

    • Techniques and apparatus for identifying the target mobile stations for data transmission in a wireless communication network. Techniques and apparatus can include generating a first N-symbol bi-orthogonal sequence from Walsh functions based on a first portion of a MACIndex and generating a complex preamble signal based on a second portion of the MACIndex. Generating the complex preamble signal can include applying the first N-symbol bi-orthogonal sequence between an In-phase branch and a Quadrature branch channel of a complex signal, which can include switching between the In-phase and Quadrature branch channels based on the second portion of the MACIndex to communicate information.

    • A method for performing network control in wireless communication systems and a network entity for performing the same. The method and network entity pool at least one network parameter at the network entity, from at least two active set base transceiver stations and determine a current status of a mobile in the wireless communication system, using the pooled network parameters. The active set base transceiver stations may include a serving base transceiver station and a target base transceiver station. The network parameter may be a confidence metric and/or an error metric for each of a plurality of hypotheses, a power up/power down signal, and/or a measured signal-to-noise ratio and/or energy parameter of a pilot signal from the mobile. The current status of the mobile to be determined may be the mobile's decision to switch to the target base transceiver station transceiver or which base transceiver station transceiver the mobile is currently communication with. The network entity may be a base station controller or a base transceiver station in the active set of base transceiver station transceivers for the mobile in question.
