(2) A U-shaped cover has two cross-bar parts opposed to each other. (3) An intersecting part of the U-shaped cross bar and a longitudinal bar is rounded. (4) An under part of the U-shaped longitudinal bar of the cover is chamfered or rounded. (5) The rear end parts of the V-shaped grooves 5 are chamfered or rounded. (6) Each peripheral side corner of the substrate is chamfered or rounded. (7) The cover and the substrate 4 have approximately a same coefficient of linear expansion. (8) The cover is composed of an ultraviolet-ray transmitting material, and the cover and the substrate 4 are bonded for fixing each other with an ultraviolet-ray curing adhesive. (9) The cover is provided with an opening part.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate handling at the time of producing a module and at the time of packaging a substrate by relatively positioning and fixing multi-fiber optical parts, a lens array and multi-fiber optical connector by guiding means. SOLUTION: An optical module body 3 has mainly a PD array or LD array 7 as the multi-fiber optical parts. Guide pins 8 are fixed to a first flange by an insert mold for which, for example, an epoxy resin is used. A lens array 6 is airtightly fixed to a second flange by using low melting glass. The multi- fiber optical connector 2 is positioned by these guide pins 8 to make the beams emitted from the optical fibers 1 in the optical connector 2 incident on the lens array 6 fixed to the second flange. The first and second flanges are aligned so as to attain the max. light quantity while the beams are observed by a CCD camera, etc., from the rear side through the lens array 6. The flanges are then fixed by YAG laser welding, etc.

摘要： PURPOSE:To facilitate hermetic sealing and fixing by providing the surfaces of upper and lower optical fiber plates with grooves which intersect with grooves for positioning optical fibers and penetrate down to both end faces. CONSTITUTION:The groove 8 intersecting with the optical fiber positioning grooves (V grooves) 9 formed on the surface of the lower plate 7 has an effect of assuring solder filling into metallic sleeve and fixing of hermetic sealing by allowing the solder to flow completely into the spacings between the metallic sleeve and the optical fiber plate. This intersecting groove 8 is required to penetrate the optical fiber array plate down to its both end faces in order for the solder to flow completely into the spacing between the metallic sleeve and the optical fiber plate. If the solder does not penetrate down to the middle, the groove exhibits the mere function of accumulating the solder and the effect of the action by the intersecting groove 8 is not expected. The sectional shape of the intersecting groove 8 may be, for example, V, U, recessed and other shapes and the size and shape thereof are not restricted, insofar as the solder is easily passable therebetween.

CONSTITUTION:The depth of optical-fiber V grooves 4 for two cores at both ends which constitute an optical fiber array and provided in a lower plate 3 is shallower than the depth of other V grooves 4', so the optical fibers 1 are positioned only by the V grooves 4 at both the ends. In the case, solder is injected from an end surface of the optical fiber array to fix the optical fibers 1, so the core eccentricity quantity based upon both the end cores becomes small. A metallic sleeve may be provided at the outer periphery of an optical fiber array positioning member, and this metallic sleeve serves as a flange for YAG laser welding or soldering for airtight sealing.

The guide pins 4 and the optical fibers 1 are respectively fixed to these grooves and thereafter, the pins and fibers are subjected to the plastic molding with the molding resin material. Namely, the guide pins 4 and the optical fibers 1 are installed to the metal mold cavity parts 5. The guide pins 4 and the single mode optical fibers 1 are respectively pressed into the fiber V-grooves 3 and the guide V- grooves 2 by clamping the upper metal mold. An epoxy resin packed with silica rounded off the corners is used and is molded in the cavities 5 by transfer molding to obtain the optical connecting member. Since the optical fibers are directly put into the metal molds and are subjected to the plastic molding, the need for labor for insertion is eliminated and the need for using the adhesives is eliminated.

Then, the silicon is oxidized with a diffusion system to form the oxide films 4 on their surfaces. The oxide films 4 are formed into a specific width at least nearby the guide pins of the guide pin V-grooves 3. When the oxide films 4 are too thin, fine tracks do not decrease and when too thick, on the other hand, the strength decreases, so the film thickness is preferably 0.01-2.0mum. Further, guide pins for coupling preferably use zirconium for preventing abrasion.
