    • A method and apparatus for encoding and decoding a motion vector of a current block. The method of encoding including: generating information about the motion vector based on a motion vector of a current block and a motion vector predictor of the current block by estimating the motion vector and determining a first motion vector predictor candidate from among a plurality of motion vector predictor candidates as the motion vector predictor based on a result of the estimating; and generating a virtual motion vector by using a second motion vector predictor candidate and the information about the motion vector, generating vector differences between the virtual motion vector and the plurality of motion vector predictor candidates, comparing the vector differences with the information about the motion vector, and selectively excluding the second motion vector predictor candidate according to the comparing.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: methods and apparatus for encoding and decoding a video by using more efficient DCT; and a computer readable recording medium having recorded thereon a program for implementing the method for decoding.SOLUTION: A method comprises: determining at least one coding unit having a hierarchical structure for decoding a video, at least one prediction unit for predicting each of the coding units, and at least one or more transformation units for inversely transforming each of the coding units, by using information about division shapes of the coding units, information about the prediction units, and information about the transformation units, parsed from a received bitstream; parsing, from the bitstream, transformation coefficients generated by transforming each of the coding units according to prescribed transformation units, and reconstructing data of the at least one prediction unit by performing entropy decoding, inverse quantization, and inverse transformation on the transformation coefficients; and performing intra prediction or inter prediction on the reconstructed data and reconstructing the video.
