    • One feature provides for a first station initiating a Tunnel Direct Link Setup (TDLS) link with a peer station within a network, by establishing a tunnel with the peer station, and establishing the TDLS link with the second station through the tunnel. The TDLS link may be implemented within the same layer of a protocol stack as the tunnel. Moreover, the network may comprise at least one access point that serves as an intermediary for transmissions between the first station and the peer station. Although the access point may be adapted to block Ethernet encapsulated TDLS frame transmissions having a TDLS Ethertype between the first station and the peer station, the first and peer stations are able to establish a TDLS link by transmitting and receiving TDLS Setup information through the tunnel by encapsulating the TDLS Setup information with, for example, PPP, PPTP, and/or L2TP tunnel schemes.

    • Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for using different MAC addresses in frames for the same station to indicate how to process the frames. In this manner, frames for IEEE 802.11ac can carry information not present in legacy frames (e.g., frames according to IEEE 802.11a/n), but these frames may be interpreted by legacy devices in a legacy way. One example method generally includes receiving a first frame comprising an indication of a first MAC address and processing the received first frame based on the first MAC address. For certain aspects, the method further includes receiving a second frame comprising an indication of a second MAC address, wherein the second MAC address is different than the first address; and processing the received second frame based on the second MAC address, such that the processing of the second frame is different than the processing of the first frame.

    • Systems and methods are disclosed that may communicate a control aggregate frame from a first wireless device to a second wireless device. A first wireless device may form a control aggregate frame by aggregating a plurality of first control frames into the control aggregate frame. The control aggregate frame may include a single media access control (MAC) header, a plurality of first aggregation fields, each storing a control frame subtype for a corresponding one of the plurality of first control frames, and a plurality of first payload fields, each storing a corresponding one of the plurality of first control frames. After generating the control aggregate frame, the first wireless device may transmit it to the second wireless device.

    • Methods and apparatus for wireless communication are provided. In one aspect, a method for wireless communication includes generating a clear to send message comprising a specific medium access control address (MAC) identifiable by a first subset of a plurality of wireless devices as instructing not to update an associated network allocation vector according to a duration field in the clear to send message. The specific MAC address is not identifiable by a second subset of the plurality of wireless devices such that the second subset of the plurality of wireless devices are instructed to update an associated network allocation vector according to the duration field. The method further includes transmitting the message, thereby reserving wireless communication access for the first subset of the plurality of wireless devices. The specific MAC address is included in one or more address fields of a medium access control header of the message.
