    • PURPOSE:To reduce bending stress around cut-up port and improve strength under application of bending load by extending the box and of a couping and causing its inner surface to come into contact with the outside circumference of the pin adjoining the cut-up port by a pin male screw. CONSTITUTION:A screw couping is composed of a box 1 having a female screw in its inner surface and a pin 2 having a male screw on its outer surface. It is composed to have a parallel sleeve machined portion B attached to box ends 3a, 3b and the sleeve inner surface come into contact with the pin outer surface adjoining the pin screw cut-up port. Normally, an oil pipe screw couping of a pin-box type has its pin screw cut-up port become a transfer opening for tensile, bending and torsion stress from the pin to the box and become the weakest point where the maximum stress concentrates. For this reason, the bending stress transferred from the pipe is eased and reduced by the box parallel sleeve B before entering the weak point. Futhermore, excessive bending deformation starting from the screw cut-up port can be prevented by covering the dangerous port with the closely adhered parallel sleeve B.

      SOLUTION: The apparatus for manufacturing the welded steel pipe by welding the butted portion of an O-can comprises a plurality of fin rolls having a circular disk shape fin portion to be partially inserted into the butted portion of the O-can to be carried and a hourglass shape drum for pressing the outer surface of the O-can in the neighborhood of the butted portion; a top roll for reforming the shape of the O-can and the shape of the butted portion; and a welding torch for welding the butted portion. The hourglass shape drum of the fin roll is formed such that the diameters of the portions separated in both directions from the fin portion outward increase with the separated distance.
