In another embodiment, an I/O request from a host computer is received by a first CAS which determines if the request is to be processed by another CAS system. When it is determined that the request is to be processed by another CAS system, the first CAS system may forward the request to the other CAS system. In another embodiment, an appliance receives an I/O request from a host computer to perform an operation that accesses a unit of content. The appliance may set up a communication session between the host and a CAS system so that the unit of content may be transmitted between the host and the CAS system without passing through the appliance.

摘要： A system and method are provided for retention of data on a storage system. An application program provides the storage system with data to be stored on the storage system. The application program also provides the storage system with a retention period that indicates a period of time for which the data may not be deleted. When the storage system receives a request to delete the data, it first evaluates the retention period associated with that data to determine if the retention period has expired. If the retention period has not expired, the storage system denies the request to delete the data.

摘要： The dispensing lid 10 for the gravity feed dispensing of a liquid includes a main body 12 defining a cavity 14 and adapted, by a screw thread 16, for releasably attaching any lid 10 to the container in a sealing manner. Spout 18 extends from the main body 12 and is fitted with an adjustable discharge valve 20 for varying the rate at which liquid flows through the spout 18. Air bleed passage 22 is formed in the lid for enabling fluid communication between the cavity 14 and the external atmosphere. The lid 10 also includes a manually operable air bleed valve 24 for selectively opening and closing the air bleed passage 22. Air bleed valve 24 is biased to normally close the passage 22. When the lid 10 is attached to a container by the screw thread 16 liquid can be dispensed or poured through the spout 18 by action of gravity at a rate dependent on the position or state of both valves 20 and 24.
