摘要： A two-part ligation clip applicator comprises a handle assembly having a squeezable trigger and an elongated shaft connected at its proximal end to the handle assembly. The elongated shaft houses a sliding advancer which is actuated by squeezing the trigger to move axially in a forward direction in the shaft. In addition, a module is mountable at a distal end of the elongated shaft and supports a ligation clip. The module has a cartridge housing, latches pivotably mounted within the housing for gripping first part of the ligation clip, and a sliding pusher slidable within the housing by actuation of the advancer to engage the second part of the ligation clip and advance it relative to the first part to close the first part.

The suturing head includes a track shaped and dimensioned for receiving a needle for movement about the track. A support arm includes first and second lateral arms connected by a central connecting member supporting the track. The support arm includes a longitudinal axis and the track lies in a transverse plane. Angular orientation of the support arm relative to the track is achieved by positioning the transverse plane of the track at an oblique angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the support arm such that operators are provided with improved access to the surgical site. A drive assembly is coupled to the needle for controlled movement about the track.

Ultrasonic vibratory energy is utilized to heat the suture retainer and effect a bonding of portions of the suture retainer to each other and/or to the suture. Portions of the body tissue may be pressed into linear apposition with each other and held in place by cooperation between the suture and the suture retainer. The suture retainer may include one or more portions between which the suture extends. The suture retainer may include sections which have surface areas which are bonded together. If desired, the suture may be wrapped around one of the sections of the suture retainer. The suture retainer may be formed with a recess in which the suture is received. If desired, the suture retainer may be omitted and the sections of the suture bonded to each other.
