    • A fixing apparatus includes: a fixing roller and a pressure roller which transport a recording paper while sandwiching the recording paper P therebetween so that an unfixed toner image formed on the recording paper is fixed thereon under heat and pressure; two support rollers; an endless belt which is set over the support rollers and comes into contact with a surface of the fixing roller; and heater lamps which are provided respectively inside the support rollers. A fixing apparatus satisfies a relationship indicated by (C2+C3)/C1≧2 where C1 is a heat capacity of each of the heater lamps, C2 is a heat capacity of each of the support rollers, and C3 is a heat capacity of the endless belt in each of areas where the endless belt is in contact with the support rollers. This realizes an external belt heat fixing apparatus which suppresses (a) heat damage to the endless belt and the surface of the fixing member and (b) unevenness of an image.

    • An image forming apparatus capable of applying an adequate amount of fixing fluid to an unfixed toner image and producing high-quality images having high resolution and high image density with stability for a longer period of time while protecting the interior thereof against fixing fluid leakage and achieving reduction in fixing fluid consumption is provided. In an image forming apparatus, a fixing fluid is applied to a toner image on an intermediary transfer belt by a coating roller, and the toner image in a swollen/softened state is fixed onto a recording medium. By a second seal member composed of a film-shaped member and a supporting member, a gap between the coating roller and a fixing fluid chamber which has the opening and places the coating roller therein is closed to avoid leakage of the fixing fluid.

    • A color image forming apparatus is provided, and includes a plurality of image forming units including a photosensitive drum, a charging device and a developing device; a carriage for retaining and rotating the plurality of image forming units so as to move the image forming units between an image forming position and a waiting position; an exposing device for exposing a surface of the photosensitive drum of the image forming unit located at the image forming position; an intermediate transfer belt for successive transfer and superposition of toner images of various colors from the photosensitive drum of the image forming units located at the image forming position so as to form a color toner image; a drive member for driving the photosensitive drum and the intermediate transfer belt; a position detector for detecting a reference position of the intermediate transfer belt when the intermediate transfer belt is driven, and outputting a reference position detection signal; a secondary transfer roller for transferring the color toner image on the intermediate transfer belt onto recording paper; and a controller for controlling the operation of the above structural elements. The controller determines an operation start time of the charging device and the developing device using a rotation command signal to the driving means as a reference, and an operation start time of the exposing device, the intermediate transfer belt and the secondary transfer roller using the reference position detection signal as a reference.

    • In a color image forming apparatus, a plurality of image forming units 3Y, 3M, 3C and 3K, which correspond to a plurality of colors and with each unit including a developing device and a photosensitive drum, are retained so as to define a cylinder. The color image forming apparatus includes: a conveying apparatus for conveying the plurality of image forming units around the main axis of the cylinder between an image forming position and a waiting position by simultaneously rotating all image forming units; an exposing device 6 for exposure of the photosensitive drum of the image forming unit that is in the image forming position 10; a transfer apparatus 5, which contacts a transfer belt 50 with the photosensitive drum 30 of the image forming unit that is in the image forming position, and when the image forming unit that is in the image forming position is switched, successively transcribes the toner images of all colors formed on the photosensitive drums onto the transfer belt, superimposes the toner images of all colors and forms a colored toner image on the transfer belt; and a transfer belt driving apparatus for driving the transfer belt at a constant speed. When a second color image is formed after a first color image, the first toner image color of the second color image is formed on the transfer belt by using the image forming unit of the last color added to the first color image. The exposing device includes a light source accommodated by the inner portion of the cylinder defined by the image forming units.
