    • A process for preparing an ethylene/ alpha -olefin/norbornene nonconjugated polyene random copolymer, comprising preparing an ethylene random copolymer simultaneously meeting the following requirements (1) to (5): (1) the molar ratio of ethylene (a) to an alpha -olefin (b) having 3 to 20 carbon atoms ranges from 40:60 to 95:5; (2) a given amount of non conjugated polyene (c) has a norbornene skeleton; (3) the available network chain density nu is not less than 1.5 x 10 /cm after press cross-linking of the copolymer using a dicumyl peroxyde; (4) the ratio of the rate gamma 1 of shear showing a shearing stress of 0.4 x 10 dyn/cm as determined from the melt flow curve at 100 DEG C and the rate gamma 2 of shear showing a shearing stress of 2.4 x 10 dyn/cm , that is, gamma 2/ gamma 1 and the available network chain density nu has a relationship represented by the following general formula: 0.04 x 10 ; and (5) the intrinsic viscosity [ eta ] ranges from 0.5 to 10 dl/g as measured in decalin at 135 DEG C. The copolymer has excellent cross-linkability, can be cross-linked with a small amount of a peroxide or the like, and a cross-linked rubber composition prepared using this copolymer has excellent heat aging resistance, mechanical strength, weather resistance, and ozone resistance.

    • A catalyst having a high polymerization activity and capable of providing olefin polymers having a wide molecular weight distribution, which comprises (a) a metallocene compound (a-1) or a titanium catalyst component (a-2) comprising magnesium, titanium, and a halogen as indispensable components, (b) a group 8-10 transition metal compound represented by general formula (I'), and a cocatalyst, wherein M represents Pd, Ni, or Pt; X and X represent N or P; R and R represent H or a hydrocarbon radical; R and R represent a halogen or a hydrocarbon radical; and R and R represent H or a hydrocarbon radical. An olefin polymer composition which has excellent rigidity and impact resistance is prepared by using a catalyst containing the above transition metal compound (b), and comprises a noncrystalline olefin polymer having an intrinsic viscosity, a glass transition temperature, and a density in respective particular ranges and a conventional olefin polymer other than the above olefin polymer. Another olefin polymer composition which has excellent mechanical properties and heat resistance is prepared by using a catalyst containing the above transition metal compound (b), and comprises a crystalline olefin polymer having an intrinsic viscosity, a melting point, and a density in respective particular ranges and a conventional olefin polymer other than the above olefin polymer.

    • A composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a polyethylene resin (A) and 2 to 5000 parts by weight of a linear ethylene- alpha -olefin random copolymer (B) comprising ethylene and a C6-C20 alpha -olefin, wherein the polyethylene resin (A) has: (a) an MFR (ASTM D 1238, 190 DEG C, load of 2.16 kg) of 0.1 to 200 g/10 min and (b) a density of 0.901 to 0.970 g/cm and the copolymer (B) has: (a) a density of 0.870 to 0.900 g/cm , (b) an intrinsic viscosity [ eta ] of 0.3 to 3.0 dl/g as determined at 135 DEG C in decalin, (c) a glass transition temperature (Tg) of -50 DEG C or below, (d) a crystallinity of less than 40 % as determined by X-ray diffractometry, (e) a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 3.0 or below as determined by GPC, (f) a B value of 1.0 to 1.4 as determined by C-NMR spectroscopy according to a specific equation and (g) a g eta * value exceeding 0.95, the g eta * value being a [ eta ]/[ eta ]blank ratio wherein [ eta ] is the above intrinsic viscosity (b) and [ eta ]blank is the intrinsic viscosity of a linear ethylene-propylene copolymer having the same weight-average molecular weight as that of the copolymer (B) (as determined by the light scattering method) and an ethylene content of 70 mole %. This resin composition can give a molded article excellent in flexibility and tensile characteristics.

    • A flexible resin composition of the invention comprises a polyethylene resin (A) and an ethylene- alpha -olefin random copolymer (B) comprising ethylene and a C3-C20 alpha -olefin at a specific ratio, and is characterized in that the MFR and density of the polyethylene resin (A) and the density, intrinsic viscosity, glass transition temperature, crystallinity, molecular weight distribution, B value, and g eta * value of the copolymer (B) lie respectively within specific ranges. This composition is excellent in melt flow characteristics, i.e., moldability, and can give a molded article excellent in the balance between flexibility and heat resistance. An ethylene- alpha -olefin copolymer resin composition of the invention comprises (A- alpha ) a linear ethylene- alpha -olefin copolymer comprising ethylene and a C4-C20 alpha -olefin and (B- alpha ) a long-chain branched ethylene- alpha -olefin random copolymer comprising ethylene and a C3-C20 alpha -olefin at a specific ratio, and the density and MFR of the copolymer (A- alpha ) and the density, MFR, intrinsic viscosity, glass transition temperature, crystallinity, molecular weight distribution, B value, and g eta * value of the copolymer (B- alpha ) lie respectively within specific ranges. A film of the invention is made from this resin composition. This ethylene- alpha -olefin copolymer resin composition is excellent in heat stability and high-speed moldability, and can give a film excellent in mechanical strength properties, low-temperature heat sealability, stability of seal, slip characteristics, antiblocking properties, handleability, and adaptability to high-speed filling in automatic filling and packaging. The obtained film also exhibits these effects.
