    • PURPOSE:To properly control the cooling speed of a metal strip without changing a roll position, by adjusting the heat conductivity of an atmospheric gas by performing the compositional adjustment of the atmospheric gas of a cooling chamber having a cooling roll received therein. CONSTITUTION:A metal strip 4 subjected to heat treatment is guided to a cooling chamber 6 through a deflection roll 5 and a pair of seal rolls 7 for preventing the mutual communication of the atmospheric gases between a heating, holding and gradual cooling section 3 and the cooling chamber 6 and subsequently cooled to a predetermined temp. during the passing through the cooling rolls 8 in the chamber 6 in a zigzag pattern while successively contacted with said rolls 8. During this time, the H2-concn. in the atmospheric temp. in the chamber 6 is always monitored by a monitor device 10 and N2 and H2 are regulated to predetermined concns. through an H2-concn. indicator 11 by manipulating flow amount control valves 12, 13 of N2 and H2. In addition, the temp. of the metal strip 4 is measured by the outlet side strip temp. meter 18 provided to the outlet side of the chamber 6 while the difference of an objective temp. and the actual strip temp. is investigated and the H2-concn. in the chamber 6 is controlled corresponding to the deviation thereof by TIC 19 to control a cooling speed so as to obtain a desired outlet side strip temp.

    • PURPOSE:To carry out the rapid cooling of a steel sheet after soaking in a gas jet rapid cooling zone divided into plural sections without deteriorating the quality of the steel sheet by passing the sheet through the rapid cooling zone at a velocity set by specifying the lengths of the divided rapid cooling sections and the minimum passing speed. CONSTITUTION:A steel sheet after soaking in a continuous annealing stage is rapidly cooled in a gas jet rapid cooling zone divided into plural sections. The sheet is passed through a rapid cooling zone at a velocity satisfying the equation, wherein Hmax is the length (m) of the longest section among the divided rapid cooling sections, and Vmin is the minimum passing speed (m/sec).
