    • PURPOSE:To exclude the use of hardly washable rolling mill oil and its mechanical removal from the rolling and annealing process, by applying a washing and annealing process to a strip rolled to an intermediate thickness, after rolling it to a final thickness at a rolling section included in a continuous annealing process. CONSTITUTION:A strip coil 1, obtained by rolling to an intermediate thickness by a rolling apparatus comprising a tandem cold mill, is uncoiled and is rolled to a final thickness by a rolling mill 4 comprising small diameter work rolls. The rear end of a preceding strip is welded to the front end of a trailing strip by a welder 3 after passing a tension controlling bridle roll 5. Thus united strip is passed through an electrolytic tank 6, and a rinsing and drying tank 8 in order to chemically wash out adherent substances of the strip surface; then, the strip is annealed in a continuous annealing chamber 10, is cut into a proper length by an outlet shear 12, and is coiled by a coiler 14 into a coil form. By the present method, the use of hardly washable rolling milll oil becomes unnecessary so that such a mechanical remover for it as a brush scrubber is not required.
