    • A sliding guide arrangement to permit a brake caliper to slide relative to a fixed brake carrier. The arrangement includes a first pair of sliding guide members on one side of the brake disc axis and a second pair of sliding guide members on the other side of the brake disc axis. Each pair of guide members include caliper guide surfaces and brake carrier guide surfaces. The caliper guide surfaces are provided by surfaces of a rib portion or groove formed therein and the brake carrier guide surfaces are provided by prismatic pilots engaging the caliper groove. A spring is provided in contact with the carrier and the brake cylinder carried by the caliper to keep the guiding surfaces of the caliper and brake carrier in abutment with each other.

    • A brake system is presented wherein a pump receives the pressure fluid that is discharged out of the wheel brakes during a control action and supplies it into a high-pressure accumulator. Further, there is provision of a separating valve which closes the brake line during a brake slip control action. The separating valve is actuated mechanically, and namely by the accumulator piston of the high-pressure accumulator. The advantage thereof is that the force of the greatly biased accumulator spring is available for cracking the separating valve open. It is thus ensured in any case that the separating valve is re-opened after a slip-controlled braking operation and renewed braking of the vehicle is possible.

    • A brake system with slip control provided for vehicles with front-wheel or rear-wheel drive comprises two hydraulically isolated brake circuits (I, II) to which in each case the wheel brake (31 to 34) of one front wheel (VL, VR) and one rear wheel (HL, HR) is connected. By use of a pressure-retention valve (51, 52) which is inserted in each case into the line branch (49, 50) connecting the associated main line (53, 54) to the wheel brake (31, 33) of the driven axle (HL, HR), the brake force build-up at the driven axle (HL, HR) is delayed compared to the non-driven vehicle axle (VL, VR) during a braking action. Accordingly, brake force can be attained at both vehicle axles (VL, VR and HL, HR) in the presence of low road adherence values. In vehicles equipped with drum brakes at the rear axle, the effect desired can also be attained by arranging for specially adapted barke-shoe return springs instead of pressure-retention or differential-pressure valves.

    • A frictionally engaging device, such as a disc brake, includes a first and a second friction element which engage one another as the device is operated to reduce the extent of and/or eliminate relative movement between these elements. The first element consists of an organically bonded friction material suffering relatively more pronounced wear, and the second element is made of a metallic material, especially iron, which suffers lesser wear in operation. The extent of wear of the first element is reduced by applying a coating of a particulate material, especially such deposited by high kinetic energy impacting of the particles, on the frictional surface of the second element which cooperates with the first element. The coating advantageously contains metals, such as cobalt, chromium and/or nickel, and/or metal carbides, especially those of tungsten and chromium.
