    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device capable of suppressing occurrence of rattling noise at any of a joint and a worm speed reduction mechanism.SOLUTION: A first end part 22 and a second end part 23 of a worm shaft 20 are rotatably supported by first and second bearings 31 and 32 respectively. An elastic member 45 elastically energizes the second end part 23 by way of the second bearing 32. The first end part 22 includes a first tubular part 34 in which a diameter expansion tolerable part 40 is formed. A male tooth part 41 is formed on the outer circumference of the first tubular part 34. The male tooth part 41 engages with a female tooth part 49 formed at a second tubular part 46 of a joint 30. A ball 42 in the first tubular part 34 pressurizes a part of the male tooth part 41 against the female tooth part 49 by enlarging a part of the diameter expansion tolerable part 40 in axial direction S1.

      SOLUTION: A steering shaft 3 of the steering device for vehicles includes first, second, and third shafts 21, 22, 23 provided in sequence in the axial direction A1. Outside circumference 213 of the upper end 211 of the first hollow shaft 21 is fitted into the inside circumference 224 of the lower end 221 of the second shaft 22. Outside circumference 233 of the lower end 231 of the third shaft 23 is fitted into the inside circumference 224 of the upper end 222 of the second shaft 22. The upper end 211 of the first shaft 21 and the lower end 231 of the third shaft 23 are separated in the axial direction A1. When an impact is absorbed as the steering shaft 3 is shortened, first impact absorption by making the first shaft 21 enlarge the second shaft 22 and second impact absorption by making the third shaft 23 enlarge the second shaft 22 are carried out in sequence. Such a structure of a transmission shaft in multiple stages stabilizes behavior in the impact absorption.
