    • The invention provides a refueling system for automated recharging of zinc-air batteries of the type having a plurality of active zinc anode elements formed of active zinc material attached to a support frame immersed in an aqueous alkaline electrolyte in a battery casing, each anode element being in alternate array with an air cathode, the system comprising automated means for simultaneously separating a plurality of spent anodes from the casing, means for removing used electrolyte from the casing, transport means for conveying spent anodes to an anode processing station, the anode processing station, at which zinc which has been at least partly oxidized is removed from the support frame, means for attaching new or reconstituted active zinc material to a cleaned support frame to form an active zinc anode, automated means for simultaneously introducing a plurality of active zinc anodes into the casing, and means for introducing fresh electrolyte into the casing.

    • A method for the inhibition of corrosion in particulate zinc, comprises the step of subjecting the zinc in the form of an alkaline slurry to the action of a corrosion inhibiting effective amount of a corrosion inhibitor which is at least one oxide selected from the oxides of antimony, bismuth, cadmium, gallium, indium, lead, mercury, thallium and tin, and which preferably constitutes 0.05-4.0 parts by weight, based on the weight of the zinc. The particulate zinc may be that recovered electrolytically from at least partially spent electrolyte from a zinc-air battery. Corrosion inhibited particulate zinc which has been treated according to the above method, as well as a mixture of (untreated) particulate zinc with such treated zinc, also form part of the invention.

    • A rechargeable, electrical power storage system employing an electrical power storage medium in the form of a slurry containing active metal particles and an electrolyte solution, which system includes one or more metal-air cells, each including outer electrode apparatus including air electrode apparatus and being configured to define a liquid permeable housing; a volume of the active metal particles arranged within the housing so as to define a static bed which is saturated with the electrolyte solution; inner electrode apparatus arranged within the housing so as to be surrounded by the static bed. The rechargeable electrical power storage apparatus may optionally also be used for the regeneration of slurry for replacement of electrically discharged slurry in the electrical power storage system of an electric vehicle.
