    • A wheel support bearing assembly excellent in the strength and the creep resistance is provided. An inner member (3) of the bearing assembly includes a hub axle (4) made of carbon steel and having a radially outwardly extending hub flange (22) formed on an outer peripheral surface of the hub axle (4) at a location adjacent the outboard end thereof, and an inner race member (5). The hub axle (4) has a radially inwardly depressed mount (4a) defined on the outer peripheral surface thereof at a location adjacent the inboard end thereof, and the inner race member (5) is fixedly mounted on the depressed mount (4a). A raceway (3b) is defined in an outer peripheral surface of the inner race member (5). The inner race member (5) has a radially inner end edge, delimited between an inner peripheral surface thereof and an annular inboard end face thereof, which edge is chamfered to represent a rounded inner end corner (5a), and is fixed on the depressed mount (4a) by means of an annular end stop (4c) that is formed by staking the inboard end of the hub axle so as to protrude radially outwardly. The hub axle (4) also includes a hardened layer (20) formed on a surface portion of the outer peripheral surface thereof at a region between a root (22a) of the hub flange (22) and the depressed mount (4a). An inboard end of the hardened layer extends to a position between the raceway (3b) and the rounded inner end corner (5a) of the inner race member (5).

    • A wheel support bearing assembly includes inner and outer members (1 and 2) and at least one row of rolling elements (3) operatively interposed between the inner and outer members (1 and 2) and an annular sealing device (5) sealing an open end of an annular space defined between the inner and outer members (1 and 2). The sealing device (5) includes first and second annular sealing plates (11 and 12) fitted to different members out of the inner and outer members (1 and 2). Each of the first and second sealing plates (11 and 12) includes a generally cylindrical wall (11a or 12a) and a radial wall (11b or 12b) assembled together to represent a generally L-shaped section. The first sealing plate (11) is fitted to one of the inner and outer members (1 and 2) that serves as a rotating member. An elastic member (14) mixed with a powdered magnetic material is bonded by vulcanization to the radial wall (11b) of the first sealing plate (11). A protective cover (18) made of a non-magnetic material is positioned on one side adjacent an exterior of the multi-pole magnet (14) with a predetermined air gap left therebetween that the number of revolution can be detected through the protective cover (18).

    • To prevent vibrations and uneven wear of a brake resulting from runout of the brake rotor, a reliable wheel bearing assembly with a brake rotor is proposed which needs no troublesome runout adjustment at a car assembling factory. The assembly includes an outer member having two raceways on its inner circumferential surface, an inner member having raceways each provided opposite a respective one of the two raceways, and rolling elements arranged in two rows between the outer and inner members. One of the outer and inner members is provided with a wheel mounting flange, and the brake rotor is mounted to the wheel mounting flange. The runout variation of a side of the brake rotor is maintained within a standard value with a fixed-side member as a datum.
