    • A swash plate type compressor is provided with a front and rear cylinder blocks having a crank case connected to a suction port. The cylinder blocks include a plurality of cylinders, and are connected to a front and rear housing sections for covering the cylinders. Each housing section contains a discharge chamber. A drive shaft is rotatabley supported by the cylinder blocks. A swash plate is mounted on the drive shaft and is rotatably disposed within the crank case. Two-head pistons move within their respective cylinders in cooperation with the swash plate. The refrigerant is drawn into, and compressed in each cylinder. Thereafter, it is discharged into the external refrigerating circuit through the front and rear discharge chambers, and a final discharge port. A discharge passage includes a hollow primary passage which is provided within the drive shaft. The primary passage communicates with the front and rear discharge chambers. A groove is provided on an inner wall of the primary passage. As the drive shaft rotates, the groove separates the refrigerant from the lubricating oil mixed with the refrigerant. An oil passage is provided between the discharge chamber and the crank case. The separated oil flows from the discharge chamber to the crank case, through the oil passage, and is used again in lubricating the components of the compressor.

    • A multi-cylinder piston-operated compressor having a cylinder consisting of an axially combined cylinder block closed at both axial ends by front and rear housings having suction and discharge chambers therein, a reciprocative piston mechanism arranged in the cylinder for sucking, compressing, and discharging a refrigerant gas, and a connecting flange from which the refrigerant gas after compression is sent toward an air-conditioning circuit. The cylinder block and the connecting flange define a muffling chamber for deadening pulsation in the pressure of the discharged refrigerant gas. The compressor further has front and rear delivery passageways axially extending from the front and rear discharge chambers and having different axial lengths, to cause a pressure differential between the flow of the discharged refrigerant gas passing through the front delivery passageway and that of the discharged refrigerant gas passing through the rear delivery passageway, thereby producing an agitated flow of the compressed refrigerant gas within the muffling chamber.

The intermediate pressure chamber and the thin fluid passageway prevent evacuation of the lubricating oil from the swash plate chamber to the suction chamber even during the rotation of the compressor at a high speed, to thereby promote a lubrication of the thrust bearings, the shoes, and the swash plate.

    • A multi-piston swash plate type compressor with an internal lubricating arrangement for an air-conditioning system used in a vehicle such as an automobile including a cylinder block body having a swash plate chamber formed therein receiving a swash plate, cylinder bores formed therein for receiving pistons, and a central axial bore formed therein for receiving a driving shaft, the driving shaft being rotatably supported in the axial bore by radial bearings provided therein and by thrust bearings provided around the shaft at the sides of the swash plate. The compressor has suction and discharge chambers communicated with the cylinder bores through reed valves. The swash plate chamber is fed with a refrigerant inclusive of a lubricating oil from the air-conditioning system, and the refrigerant is then fed to the suction chamber through the axial bore. The thrust bearings have a race element surrounding the shaft, a clearance between the race element and the shaft being locally widened for increasing a flow rate of the refrigerant to be introduced into the axial bore through the thrust bearings.
