    • PURPOSE:To obtain a layer-built displacement element having external electrodes with high bond strength and capable of preventing migration completely by forming internal electrodes of a non-silver material and forming the external electrodes by stacking a layer consisting of at least one of Pd and Pt and grass frit and a layer consisting of at least one of Ni and Cu. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of sheets 1 of an electromechanical converting material and internal electrodes 2 of a conductive metallic material are stacked alternately, and a pair of external electrodes 3 are provided on the sides of the layer-built body so that they are connected with alternate layers of the internal electrodes 2. In a layer-built displacement element thus constructed, the internal electrodes 2 are formed of a non-silver material while the external electrodes 3 are formed by stacking a layer consisting of at least one of Pd and Pt and glass frit and a layer consisting of at least one of Ni and Cu. According to an embodiment, palladium paste for forming the internal electrodes 2 is screen printed on the surface of each green sheet and the printed sheets are stacked and baked. Then, the external electrodes 3 are provided as described in the above.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an ultrasonic vibrator having a high noise resistance and to enable the implementation of detection of a wide range and transmission to a more distant place, by a method wherein vibrations in the direction of the axis of the vibrator are divided by discontinuous planes. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic vibrator is formed of an electro-mechanical conversion material so that it has the shape of a hollow cylinder having a mean radius (r) and a length L. Discontinuous planes 31 are provided so that they intersect the axis of the vibrator 3 perpendicularly, and a distance l1 between the discontinuous planes 31 or a distance l2 between the discontinuous plane 31 and the end of face of the vibrator 3 is set at the dimension of 0.7pir(1-sigma ) (sigma is the Poisson ratio of a voltage material). Besides, a continuous part 32 is provided in a part of the discontinuous plane 31 so that a prescribed length in the direction of the axis of the vibrator 3 is secured. Electrodes are provided on the inner and outer surfaces of the vibrator 3, lead wires are connected thereto, and a high-frequency voltage is impressed thereon. Then vibrations in the direction of the axis are divided by the discontinuous panes 31 and not propagated to the whole of the vibrator 3. Therefore, ultrasonic waves emitted outward are almost composed of components in the radial direction thereby causing no coupling phenomenon.

    • PURPOSE:To enable a piezoelectric sheet to be displaced effectively in its approximately entire surface and to enable external electrodes to be formed easily even if piezoelectric sheets are thin, by providing each of the piezoelectric sheet switch a pair of projections so that internal electrode plates are led out alternately to the side faces of said projections. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of thin piezoelectric sheets 1 are superposed on each other with interposition of internal electrode plates 2 having a generally identical shape with that of the piezoelectric sheets to form a laminate. A pair of external electrodes 3 are provided on the side faces of the laminate, such that they are connected to the internal electrode plates 2 on alternate layers. In such a laminate-type piezoelectric element, each of the thin piezoelectric sheets 1 has a pair of projections 1a projecting outwards and the internal electrode plates 2 located between the piezoelectric sheets 1 are led out alternately to opposite external side faces of said projections 1a. Conductors are disposed on the end face of the projections to provide a pair of external electrodes connected to the internal electrode plates 2 on a alternate layers. Said internal electrode plates 2 may be formed integrally with the thin piezoelectric sheets 1 for example by screen printing silver-palladium paste on the thin piezoelectric sheets 1.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the space for wiring at mounting by leading out both of two external electrodes of a lamination-type piezoelectric element from only one side plane of said element. CONSTITUTION:A calcined powder of a piezoelectric material mainly consisting of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 mixed with a minute quantity of organic binder is dispersed in an organic solvent to prepare a slurry. This slurry is spread to a predetermined thickness by doctor blade technique to make a piezoelectric material 1 of thin plate form. Next, a platinum paste is screen-printed on the surface of one side of that piezoelectric material 1 to form an internal electrode 2. A predetermined number of such piezoelectric materials 1 in which the internal electrode 2 has been formed are laminated and made into one body by heat pressing, after which it is sintered at a temperature of about 1,250 deg.C to obtain a piezoelectric element composed of the piezoelectric materials 1 and the internal electrodes 2 laminated alternately. On only one side plane of the element, wires 3 and 4 are respectively soldered to every two internal electrodes 2 alternately to fabricate a lamination-type piezoelectric element having a pair of external electrodes A and B.
