    • Disclosed herein are apparatus, methods and computer program products for transmitting signals in different frequency sub-bands used in a particular cell of a cellular wireless communications system in accordance with a power sequence and for selecting modulation schemes to be used in transmitting the signals in the different frequency sub-bands in dependence on signal transmission power allocated to the sub-bands in the power sequence. In the power sequence, signals to be transmitted in at least one sub-band are allocated a higher signal transmission power level than signals to be transmitted in other sub-bands used in the particular cell of the cellular wireless communication system. The differing signal transmission power levels allocated to the different sub-bands typically results in different SINR for signals transmitted at the higher signal transmission power levels and signal transmitted at the lower signal transmission power levels. In order to reduce the SINR difference between signals transmitted in the different sub-bands, modulation schemes are selected in dependence on the signal transmission power levels allocated to signals transmitted in the sub-bands.

    • The present invention relates to a method and a device for controlling power in a network transmitted from a first station to a second station. The second station determines a power target value for a signal received from the first station and sends power control commands to the first station depending on a deviation between said power target value and a received power level. The second station detects faulty data blocks received from the first station and requests retransmission of faulty data blocks from the first station. The adjustment of the power target value to a temporary power target value during the retransmission is performed such that the temporary power target value is calculated depending on the quality of a faulty data block.

    • Structure of a multi-carrier flexible spectrum wireless cell is determined from received synchronization or broadcast channels of detected individual carriers. The determined structure is used to select an intended carrier for initial access or cell reselection to the flexible spectrum wireless cell. The structure may have carriers compatible with an earlier version (LTE/Release 8) of a communication standard and with a later version (LTE-A/Release 9). The received synchronization channels can inform of: relative positions of the individual carriers in a spectrum band of the multi-carrier structure; relative timing alignments of the received synchronization channels; contents of the received synchronization channels; and/or layer 1 cell-carrier identifiers. The synchronization channels may have a different structure as between the earlier and later versions, and the different structure is used to select the carrier that is compatible with the user equipment making the selection.
