    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display in which the alignment state of a monostable ferroelectric liquid crystal is made uniform, and to provide a method for manufacturing the display.
      SOLUTION: The temperature range of the cholesteric phase or the chiral nematic phase in the phase series of the liquid crystal is controlled to have ≥3°C temperature width. After the liquid crystal is heated to be transformed into the isotropic phase once, it is cooled to room temperature (25°C) at cooling rates of 3, 5, 10°C/minute. The alignment process is carried out by applying ≥3 V DC voltage which is a sufficient voltage to obtain the alignment effect in the temperature range of (the transition temperature from the cholesteric phase to the chiral smectic C phase of the liquid crystal)±3°C.
