摘要： A novel class of low reflectivity, high transparency, non-metallic cathodes (1) useful for a wide range of electrically active, transparent organic devices is disclosed. As a representative embodiment, the highly transparent non-metallic cathode (1) of an OLED employes a thin film of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) (6) capped with a film of low-power, radio-frequency sputtered indium-tin-oxide (ITO). The CuPc prevents damage to the underlying organic layers during the ITO sputtering process. Due to the low reflectivity of the non-metallic cathode, a non-antireflection-coated, non-metallic-cathode-containing TOLED is disclosed that is 85 % transmissive in the visible, emitting nearly identical amounts of light in the forward and back-scattered directions.

The present disclosure also relates to the synthesis of such compounds, methods of manufacture, and applications in photovoltaic systems and organic lasers.

摘要： Coordinating additives are included in porpliyrinoid-based materials to promote intermolecular organization and improve one or more photoelectric characteristics of the materials, The coordinating additives are selected from fullerene compounds and organic compounds having free electron pairs. Combinations of different coordinating additives can be used to tailor the characteristic properties of such porphyrinoid-based materials, including porphyrin oligomers. Bidentate ligands are one type of coordinating additive that can form coordination bonds with a central metal ion of two different porphyrinoid compounds to promote porphyrinoid alignment and/or pi-stacking. The coordinating additives can shift the absorption spectrum of a photoactive material toward higher wa velengths, increase the external quantum efficiency of the material, or both.

Further disclosed are methods of increasing power conversion efficiency in photosensitive optoelectronic devices using at least one of an electron blocking or hole blocking layer. The electron blocking and hole blocking layers presently disclosed may reduce electron leakage current by reducing the dark current components of photovoltaic cells. This work demonstrates the importance of reducing dark current to improve power conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cells.

The device includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a photoactive region disposed between and electrically connected to the first and second electrodes. The photoactive region further includes an organic donor layer and an organic acceptor layer that form a donor-acceptor heterojunction. The mobility of holes in the organic donor region and the mobility of electrons in the organic acceptor region are different by a factor of at least 100, and more preferably a factor of at least 1000. At least one of the mobility of holes in the organic donor region and the mobility of electrons in the organic acceptor region is greater than 0.001 cm 2 / V-sec, and more preferably greater than 1cm 2 V-sec. The heterojunction may be of various types, includes a planar heterojunction, a bulk heterojunction, a mixed heterojunction, and a hybrid planar-mixed heterojunction.

This disclosure is also directed to a substrate-damage-free epitaxial lift-off ("ELO") process that employs adhesive-free, reliable and lightweight cold-weld bonding to a substrate, such as bonding to plastic or metal foils shaped into compound parabolic metal foil concentrators. By combining low-cost solar cell production and ultrahigh- efficiency of solar intensity-concentrated thin-film solar cells on foil substrates shaped into an integrated collector, as described herein, both lower cost of the module as well as significant cost reductions in the infrastructure is achieved.

Such methods may find applicability, for example, in bonding circuitry to shaped substrates, including various rounded and irregular shapes, and may be used to combine devices with different structural properties, e.g. from different materials systems.
