    • An apparatus and method are provided that compensates for the problematic time-varying DC offset by effectively eliminating a near-channel amplited modulated interferer from a signal. The apparatus includes a first channel estimator for estimating a plurality of first channel filter taps Ĥ using a first signal model St, and a second channel estimator for estimating a plurality of second channel filter taps {tilde over (H)} using a second signal model {tilde over (S)}t. The apparatus also includes a processor for selecting which of the first signal model St and the second signal model {tilde over (S)}t is to be used or was used to substantially eliminate the near-channel amplitude modulated interferer from the received signal. The apparatus can be a mobile phone, base station, direct conversion receiver, or communications system (for example).

    • An RF amplifier for a transmitter develops a phase modulation command representing a desired phase modulation of an RF signal, and an amplitude modulation command representing a desired amplitude modulation of the RF signal. An oscillator develops an RF input signal phase modulated based on the phase modulation command. A power amplifier receives the RF input signal and amplifies the RF input signal based on the amplitude modulation command to develop an RF output signal. A modulation control is operatively associated with the oscillator. The modulation control includes a phase memory for storing phase correction information correlating the amplitude modulation commands to a phase modulation error and a phase control for varying the phase modulation command based on the phase modulation error to correct for unintended phase errors created by amplitude modulation of the power amplifier.

    • A computer system with an image reader and nerual network is provided for determining whether an image of text has been generated by a machine or by hand. This serves the useful purpose of allowing one to use speciallized recognition techiques that are more suited to one form of printing, thus achieving a higher recognition accuracy than by using a single recognition technique for both types of printing. The method is based on the premise that the spatial spectra for an image of machine text will have more higher frequency components than one generated by hand, because of the nonregular, nonuniform slant of the handprint. The method proposed generates this spectra by convolving spatial templates with vertical histograms from each line of text, and uses a neural network to classify the resulting spectra.

    • A Prior Art current digitizer which uses a resistive film and a stylus connected to a current source for locating a stylus by current measurement. A preferred embodiment of a voltage digitizer design which uses a polyvinylidene difluoride (KYNAR) film coated with a conductive resistive coating so that the transient voltage between the coating on the upper and lower surfaces of the PVDF piezoelectric film can be measured.
