摘要： The present invention is directed to a solventborne thermosetting composition comprising:(a) a polymeric binder comprising a copolymer, said copolymer being a polymerization product of: (i) 10 to 30 percent by weight, based on the total weight of monomers used to prepare the copolymer, of a monomer having the following structure (I): wherein R1 comprises linear or branched C1 to C4 alkyl, and R2 comprises methyl, linear, cyclic or branched C1 to C20 alkyl or alkenyl; (ii) 5 to 25 percent by weight, based on the total weight of monomers used to prepare the copolymer, of a monomer having aromatic functionality; (iii) 0 to 60 percent by weight, based on the total weight of monomers used to prepare the copolymer, of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing secondary hydroxyl groups; and (iv) 15 to 50 percent by weight, based on the total weight of monomers used to prepare the copolymer, of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing primary hydroxyl groups; (b) an aminoplast curing agent; and(c) a compound comprising a capped isocyanate-functional material.

摘要： A coating composition is provided comprising (a) a polymer containing reactive functional groups; (b) a curing agent having reactive functional groups that are reactive with the functional groups in the polymer in (a); and (c) a polymeric material different from (a) and (b) having functional groups. The functional groups in components (a) and (b) are more reactive with each other than with the functional groups in component (c) such that upon curing, at least a portion of the functional groups on component (c) remain unreacted. A coating layer formed from the composition upon application to a substrate has surface regions and a bulk region, and the concentration of component (c) at one or more surface regions is greater than the concentration of component (c) in the bulk region of the coating layer. The composition can be used in multi-layer composites containing two or more coating layers.

摘要： Disclosed are thermosetting compositions which are comprised of a resinous phase dispersed in an aqueous medium, the resinous phase comprising (a) an ungelled active hydrogen group-containing polymer which contains amine salt groups, the polymer having been prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization in the presence of an initiator having at least one radically transferable group, and (b) a curing agent having at least two functional groups which are reactive with the active hydrogen groups of (a). The active hydrogen group-containing polymers of the thermosetting compositions, which are prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization, have narrow molecular weight distributions and well-defined, specifically tailored polymer architecture which can provide enhanced crosslink density and dispersibility of the thermosetting compositions. Also disclosed is a method of electrocoating a conductive substrate using the thermosetting compositions of the invention, and a substrate coated by this method.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a process of atom (or group) transfer radical polymerization for the synthesis of novel homopolymer or a block or graft copolymer, optionally containing at least one polar group, with well defined molecular architecture and narrow polydispersity index, in the presence of an initiating system comprising (i) an initiator having a radically transferrable atom or group, (ii) a transition metal compound, and (iii) a ligand; the present invention is also directed to the synthesis of a macromolecule having at least two halogen groups which can be used as a macroinitiator component (i) to subsequently form a block or graft copolymer by an atom or group transfer radical polymerization process; the present invention is also directed to a process of atom or group transfer radical polymerization for the synthesis of a branched or hyperbranched polymer; in addition, the present invention is directed to a process of atom or group transfer radical polymerization for the synthesis of a macroinitiator which can subsequently be used to produce a block or graft copolymer.
