    • Disclosed are laminoplasty devices and systems, kits that include such laminoplasty devices or systems or components thereof; and methods of assembling and using such laminoplasty devices and systems. In particular, articulating laminoplasty devices are provided that allow lamina plates to be adjusted angularly and transitionally with respect to a cage connecting the lamina plates. Also provided are laminoplasty plates that are configured so as to be assembled with a bone graft housing, and which provide an opening configured to facilitate bone graft insertion into the housing. Further provided are expandable laminoplasty fixation systems that include a lateral mass plate, a lamina plate and a set screw that when screwed and unscrewed, allows one to contract and expand the plates with respect to one another.

    • In an exemplary embodiment, the present invention provides an orthopedic plate blocking assembly that can be used for the fixation or fastening of an orthopedic plate to bone tissue. In particular, the present invention, in one embodiment, provides an orthopedic plate having a plurality of cavities where each cavity is configured and dimensioned to receive a bone anchoring member. The orthopedic plate further provides a blocking mechanism having a plurality of blocking members that block the bone anchoring members to prevent the bone anchoring members from “backing out” of cavities once the bone anchoring members are finally seated in the cavities.

    • The present invention provides a simplified bone fastener removal tool which allows the surgeon to remove bone screws or other bone fasteners from bone, and from bone plates incorporating fastener locking elements. The tool includes an inner shaft which axially engages the bone fastener, a drive shaft which allows the fastener to be rotated using the tool, and an internally threaded outer sleeve which, in combination with the drive shaft, allows for a controlled removal of the fastener from the bone plate and bone. In particular, the internal threads of the outer sleeve engage external threads on the drive shaft, such that rotating the drive shaft while maintaining the outer sleeve fixed causes the drive shaft to translate with respect to the sleeve. Thus, when a fastener is axially engaged with the drive shaft, a controlled removal of the fastener from the bone and bone plate is accomplished simply by rotating the drive shaft with respect to the outer sleeve. No pulling on the fastener is necessary. A method of using the tool is also provided.
