    • A refrigeration unit (40) having a defroster (30) has a refrigeration compartment (44), an evaporator coil (26) having an amount of crystallized water being aggregated thereon from air and a thermo-electric module (32, 46, 48, 50) having a semiconductor material. The thermo-electric module (32, 46, 48, 50) provides heating from a first location of the thermoelectric module (32, 46, 48, 50) and cooling from a second location of the thermo-electric module (32, 46, 48, 50) based on a Peltier effect when a current from a power supply is traversed through the thermo-electric module (32, 46, 48, 50). The heating from a first location heats the evaporator coil (26) to defrost the aggregated amount of crystallized water thereon. The cooling from the second location is communicated to the refrigeration compartment (44).

    • An integrated circuit battery sensor and system thereof are provided. The battery sensor includes a voltage sensor configured to sample a voyage of a battery and a buffer in electrical communication with the voltage sensor and configured for scaling the sampled battery voltage and outputting a voltage signal proportional to the sampled battery voltage; wherein the voltage sensor is further configured for isolating the buffer from the battery. The voltage sensor includes a first capacitor coupled to a positive potential terminal of the battery and a second capacitor coupled to a negative potential terminal of the battery. The battery sensor includes a first die including a first and second input terminal configured for coupling to the positive and negative potential terminals of the battery; and a second die including the voltage sensor, wherein the first and second die are electrically isolated from each other.

    • Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for assessing non-native spontaneous speech pronunciation. Speech recognition on digitized speech is performed using a non-native acoustic model trained with non-native speech to generate word hypotheses for the digitized speech. Time alignment is performed between the digitized speech and the word hypotheses using a reference acoustic model trained with native-quality speech. Statistics are calculated regarding individual words and phonemes in the word hypotheses based on the alignment. A plurality of features for use in assessing pronunciation of the speech are calculated based on the statistics, an assessment score is calculated based on one or more of the calculated features, and the assessment score is stored in a computer-readable memory.
