    • A light emitting device with selective reflection function being applied to general light emitting device and AC-type light emitting device is revealed. The light emitting device includes at least one vertical light emitting unit, at least one selective reflection layer and a phosphor layer. The selective reflection layer is disposed over the vertical light emitting unit and the phosphor layer is arranged over the selective reflection layer. Thus first colored light from the vertical light emitting unit passes the selective reflection layer and then to be converted into second colored light by the phosphor layer. The selective reflection layer reflects the second colored light while the first colored light is mixed with the second colored light to form mixing colored light. By the selective reflection layer that prevents the second colored light emitting into the light emitting unit, the lighting efficiency of the light emitting device is enhanced.

    • A system and methods to construct and maintain a balanced-tree overlay network are used to host distributed databases. As overlay nodes can detach from and re-attach to an overlay unpredictably, overlay protocols must maintain the overlay tree properly to minimize communication overheads associated with store and retrieval operations of the hosted databases. Unlike a DHT (distributed hash table) approach, the balanced-tree approach has the advantages of stabilizibility and provable correctness of the overlay protocols. Fast inquiry can be achieved by using a caching algorithm that allows each overlay node to keep track of data ranges stored in a neighboring set of nodes. Self-healing and load balancing protocols are also incorporated to enhance the performance and stability of the tree-structured overlay.

    • A multiband antenna for a communication device is disclosed. The multiband antenna comprises a dielectric substrate, a ground portion, and a radiating metal portion. The dielectric substrate comprises two surfaces. The ground portion comprises a first ground plane, a second ground plane, and a connecting metal strip. The first ground plane is on one of the surfaces of the dielectric substrate and has a first connecting point and a shorting point. The second ground plane is near the first ground plane and has a second connecting point. At least one part of the connecting metal strip is on one surface of the dielectric substrate. The connecting metal strip has one end connected to the first connecting point and the other end connected to the second connecting point. The radiating metal portion is connected to the dielectric substrate, without overlapping the first ground plane. The radiating metal portion comprises a radiating section having one end connected to the shorting point and the other end as an open end; and a feeding section having one end connected to a signal source and the other end as an open end, wherein the open end of the feeding section has a spacing of less than 3 mm to the radiating portion.

    • Registration and deregistration of entities in a distributed directory, hosted in a distributed overlay network are carried out in a peer-to-peer manner. The overlay nodes are volatile as every node can attach to or detach from the overlay in an unpredictable manner. Therefore, the distributed directory is volatile as its entries are created and destroyed unpredictably, in accordance with the distributed registration process. The registration and deregistration process can use SIP or other protocols. Application-level connection setup is also carried out on an overlay of volatile nodes, in a peer-to-peer manner using IP as the communications protocol. The application-level setup is aided by a distributed search algorithm, which can be based on DHT (distributed hash table).
