[Also in Division B7] Linkwork conveying rotation between rotary members 112, 116 comprises a disc 128 therebetween, a first set of links 120 pivoted to the member 112 at points equi-angularly spaced on a common pitch circle and to the disc 128 at similarly spaced points, and a second set of links 140 pivoted to the member 116 at points equi-angularly spaced on a common pitch circle and to the disc 128 at similarly spaced points, the length of each link in a set being less than the distance between adjacent pivot points on either member to which the set is pivoted, and the axes of rotation of the members 112, 116 being prevented from coinciding either by making the links of the two sets of different lengths, or by external constraint. Each set comprises at least three links which are pivoted on pins secured to the members 112, 116 or disc 128. The members 112, 116 are secured on parallel shafts 114, 118 respectively, movable transversely one relative to the other. A second intermediate disc may be interposed between the first disc and one of the rotary members (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), with a third set of links equal in length to the second set, one of the discs being spring-biased laterally to prevent it orbiting when the axes of rotation of one disc and one member coincide. In Fig. 7, the rotary member 188 is secured on a shaft 198 which extends through rings 190, 192 forming the intermediate and output members of the linkage, a driven shaft 200 being connected to the ring 192 by a belt and a pulley 204, or by other toothed or chain gearing. To accommodate the angular movement of one rotary member (260), the intermediate disc may comprise two members (266, 268) drivingly connected by a universal joint (270) (Fig. 12, not shown). The linkage may be used in the transmission of a motor vehicle (Figs. 9-12, not shown) (see Division B7) or in the drive for the rolls of a rolling mill (Fig. 14, not shown), or a helicopter drive. Specification 1,057,655 is referred to.
