    • Standard platforms are integrated into a mason's scaffold 1 to reduce manufacturing and assembly costs, the standard platforms 25 having hooks 29 on both ends. The hooks 29 are supported on lower horizontal members of respective rectangular frames 7. Platform fasteners 35 are secured to each lower horizontal member with the standard platform hooks 29 therebetween, thereby retaining the standard platforms 25 to the frames 7 to form a working deck. Each platform fastener 35 comprises a metal sheet 37 to which is welded an L-shaped bar 43 that engages a hole in the frame lower horizontal member. A pin 49 slides within the metal sheet 37 and cooperates with the bar to positively secure the platform fastener 35 to the frame lower horizontal member. Similar standard platforms 25 and platform fasteners 35 are assembled to upper horizontal members of the frames 7 to form a protective canopy 73. Hatches 74 with selectively openable doors may be used for some sections of the canopy 73. The present invention further comprises fairleads 94 for guiding the cables 3 from which the mason's scaffold 1 is suspended from a building or the like.

    • This application relates to the field of door access security systems and, particularly, to the field of card readers for door access security systems. A problem arises when communication between a remote card reader and the central controller is lost. If all access is denied during such times, peoples lives may be endangered. If open access to anyone is granted, security may be breached with no record of who was granted access during the down or degraded mode period. There is disclosed herein an improved card reader (22) for a security system utilizing a central controller (20) and a plurality of card readers for controlling traffic through critical doors in a facility. During normal operation, the card readers read card data and send it to the central controller. The central controller makes the decision whether to grant or deny access based upon a comparison of the card data and data kept in memory regarding persons who are authorized access to certain areas. The central controller then sends a "Go" or "No Go" message, i.e., whether or not to grant access, to the reader after the access decision is made. The improved card reader can also sense when communications with the central controller are lost and grant or deny access without consulting the controller, based upon data read from the card by comparing the card data to data stored in a degraded mode buffer (89) in the reader, indicating which persons are authorized access during degraded mode times when communication with the central controller is not possible. The improved reader includes means (89) for storing the authorized identification code data for persons who will be allowed access during times when communications between the card reader and the central controller are not working.

    • A control and actuating circuit for a fluid controlled and actuated belt-driven, live-roller (R), multi-zone accumulator conveyor (10) in which the drive for each conveyor zone is engaged by means of a fluid operated actuator (19). Each accumulator zone has an article sensor (30) responsive to an article (L) on the conveyor (10) within the respective zone, which sensor (30) comprises a normally-open fluid sensor valve (CV). The respective actuators (19) in each zone each comprise a shuttle valve having two input ports (A, B) and an output port operationally connected to an actuating piston (20). One of the input ports (B) of the respective shuttle valve is connected to the output of the normally-open sensor valve (CV) of the respective zone. The other input port (A) of the shuttle valve is connected to the output of the normally-open sensor valve (CV) of the next downstream zone.

    • A low cost, speaker independent, limited vocabulary, word recognizing microcomputer (17). The microcomputer divides each spoken word into a series of word states, determines the length of each state and classifies each state as fricative, vowel-like, or silent. The incoming speech pattern, in the form of an array of classified word states and an array of associated word lengths is then compared sequentially with a series of templates, defining the limited vocabulary stored in the microcomputer's memory (19). Each stored template includes an array of classified states, an array of lengths corresponding to the states and an array of weights corresponding to at least some of the states. The state classifications ofthe incoming state array are compared sequentially with the template states of each template state array and where the classifications match, an error score is generated based on the difference in lengths between the template state lengths and the word state lengths. The weights are used to permit recognition of a spoken word as a template word even when the array of states representing the spoken word is not identical to an array of states in any of the template words.

    • A chemical oxygen or other gas generator (10) which has a container (20) composed of thermally-conductive and gas-impervious material which contains pyrotechnic material (22), the container (20) being in heat transfer relation with a block of oxygen-producing material (14) for transfer of heat from burning of the pyrotechnic material (22) within the container (20) directly to the block of oxygen-producing material (14) for initiation of decomposition thereof. The container (20) is sealingly attached to the casing (12) so that all of the evolved gases from burning of the pyrotechnic material (22) are segregated from the produced breathable oxygen. The evolved gases are vented from the oxygen generator (10) so as to reduce the ignition chamber pressure and/or allow a greater amount of pyrotechnic material (22) to be burned within the ignition chamber so that a sufficient amount of heat may be generated within the ignition chamber (27) for application to the block of oxygen-producing material (14) for initiating decomposition thereof. This also allows the providing of pyrotechnic material within the space occupied by the oxygen-producing material for initiating decomposition thereof to be desirably eliminated so that a smaller filter capacity is required. The container has a first portion (60) composed of a material which serves as a heat sink for transferring the heat to the block of oxygen-producing material (14) of such magnitude and over a period to effect initiation of decomposition thereof. A second portion of the container (62), which is not in direct contact with the pyrotechnic material (22) is composed of a material for restricting heat transfer to the casing.
