摘要： Disclosed herein is a polymeric paint additive that increases the open time and the flow and leveling of paint compositions, as well as, niaintaining/improving paint film properties such as scrub resistance, water sensitivity, surfactant leaching and stain removal. The polymeric open time additive preferably has a high glass transition temperature, e.g., above 100°C, as determined by the well-known Pox's equation, and molecular weight of less than 20,000 Daltons (number average molecular weight). The particle size of the inventive polymeric open time additive is in the range of about 130 nm to about 230 nm (volume average), prior to being dissolved in a basic solution, such as an aqueous architectural composition.

The solid acrylic polymer without water and the PU spheres make up about 30% to about 40% by weight of the aqueous composition. A dried paint film formed by the inventive aqueous architectural composition can withstand at least about 500 cycles on the scrub test, and a gloss value at 60° of less than about 2.5 GU.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method for minimizing the effects of metamerism between a set of color standards (e.g., nitrocellulose lacquers) and inkjet printed color merchandise (e.g., paint chips) under a plurality of illuminants, including a balanced illuminant that emulates lighting conditions between cool (6500 K) and warm (2856 K) color temperatures. For each color standard, one selects an ink combination that best produces color merchandise having a minimal degree of metamerism. Innovatively, a combination of instrumental and visual tests is used to evaluate color difference for a set of color standards-color merchandise pairs under a plurality of illuminants. If a color standard-color merchandise pair fails either test then the ink combination may be adjusted.

摘要： A paint system is provided that includes a foundation base component combined with a tinted, opaque top coat component and that hides any colors on all types of substrates and maintains the brightness and cleanness for all colors. The foundation base component is a tintable color base containing at least one organic synthetic pigment at an amount of at least twice as much as the amount of organic synthetic pigment in the top coat component. The tintable foundation base component has a volume ratio of organic pigments to inorganic pigments of at least about 0.5 and a volume ratio of organic pigment to polymer binder of at least about 0.1. The volume ratio of organic pigment to polymer binder in the top coat component is less than about 0.1 with at least about 80% by volume of pigments being synthetic organic pigments.
