    • A package label is described. The package label comprises a first ply, a second ply, and a first edge. The second ply comprises a pull tab comprising a first boundary adjacent the first edge, a second boundary opposing the first boundary, and a first adhesive deadener area. The second ply also comprises a first line of weakness adjacent the second boundary and positioned apart from the first adhesive deadener area. The first line of weakness is linear. The second ply further comprises a first stopping feature adjacent a first end of the first line of weakness and a second stopping feature adjacent a second end of the first line of weakness. Various embodiments of the package label are also described.

    • The present invention is directed to packaging films having accelerated migration rates of an antimicrobial agent through a product -contact layer which extends the shelf-life of products packaged therein. The product-contact layer includes an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer having a melt flow index of greater than 6 dg/min at 190 C/2.18 kg, an antimicrobial agent and a wetting agent. In some preferred embodiments, greater than 30% of the initial amount of antimicrobial agent present in the product-contact layer can be released after 21 days upon contact with water. The packaging films can be converted into bags, pillow pouches, stand-up pouches, quad pouches, zipped pouches, over-wraps, lidding films, thermoformed trays, vacuum packages, vacuum skin packaging and the like. These films can be used for any product in which it would advantageous to reduce harmful microbial contaminants.

    • The present invention is directed to rigid or semi-rigid trays having a bulk layer comprising a crystalline aromatic polyester and a capping layer which is in direct contact with the bulk layer. The capping layer comprises a polyethylene-based polymer and is surface-treated to increase its surface tension. It has been discovered that the bulk layer and the capping layer of the present invention can be readily laminated together and have sufficient bond strength to each other despite their chemical dissimilarity. In some preferred embodiments, the capping layer acts as a heat seal layer and is formulated to heat seal to conventional polyolefin-based lidstock.

    • The present invention is directed to a bag~in~box package having a flowable product contained in a thermoplastic bag which is inserted in or encased within an outer relatively rigid box or carton is provided. The box or carton may be constructed from a rigid or semi-rigid plastic or paperboard and has (i) a flat bottom panel, an opposing top panel, and a self-supporting, upstanding wall connecting the bottom and top panels, and (ii) an access port through the box for inserting a rigid implement, such as a drinking straw or other spout/tap therethrough to puncture the bag and withdraw the flowable product from inside the bag. The flowable product occupies less than 100% of the available volume of the bag and the remaining available head-space volume above the product is evacuated or collapsed in order to prevent spillage or leakage of product from the straw or spout when the bag is punctured.
