    • An unobtrusive tab is provided in a user interface (UI) used in communicating with a contact, for providing a notification of new information, and to enable access to the information or a representation of the information. The items provided in the information pane may also be selectable to enable further information to be displayed, e.g. an application related to or containing the selected item. Various data items can also be associated with items in the information pane in order to enable further content and information to be launched through selection of an item in the information pane. The information pane can be used as an alternative communication channel and portal for sending and receiving data items such as links, pictures, or other attachments to enable sharing between contacts without disrupting or cluttering a conversational exchange or consuming resources in a particular communication medium.

    • What is disclosed is a system and method for compensating for motion induce artifacts in a physiological signal obtained from a video. In one embodiment, a video of a first and second region of interest of a subject being monitored for a desired physiological function is captured by a video device. The first region is an area of exposed skin wherein a desired signal corresponding to the physiological function can be registered. The second region is an area where movement is likely to induce motion artifacts into that signal. The video is processed to isolate pixels in the image frames associated with these regions. Pixels of the first region are processed to obtain a time-series signal. A physiological signal is extracted from the time-series signal. Pixels of the second region are analyzed to identify motion. The physiological signal is processed to compensate for the identified motion.

    • What is disclosed is a method for monitoring a subject for cardiac arrhythmia such as atrial fibrillation using an apparatus that can be comfortably worn by the subject around an area of exposed skin where a photoplethysmographic (PPG) signal can be registered. In one embodiment, the apparatus is a reflective or transmissive wrist-worn device with emitter/detector pairs fixed to an inner side of a band with at least one illuminator emitting source light at a specified wavelength band. The illuminator is paired to a respective photodetector comprising one or more sensors that are sensitive to a wavelength band of its paired illuminator. The photodetector measures intensity of sensed light emitted by a respective illuminator. The signal obtained by the sensors comprises a continuous PPG signal. The continuous PPG signal analyzed for peak-to-peak pulse points from which the existence of cardiac arrhythmia such as atrial fibrillation event can be determined.

    • What is disclosed is an apparatus and method for inhibiting the formation of sediment in an ink sub-tank of a MICR inkjet printer. In one embodiment, the present apparatus comprises an ink sub-tank containing MICR ink substantially comprising a ferrofluid of particles, and an electromagnet. When the MICR inkjet printer is turned OFF, the electromagnet is lowered into a chamber inside the ink sub-tank and an electric current is applied to activate the electromagnet. Activation of the electromagnet causes the particles of the ferrofluid to be attracted to the electromagnet's magnetic field such that the particles are lifted off a bottom of the sub-tank to inhibit sediment formation thereon. The electromagnet is de-activated when the MICR inkjet printer is turned OFF. A sensor is employed to activate the electromagnet when sediment in the ink sub-tank has reached a pre-determined level.

    • What is disclosed is a customer relationship management system to help customer care agents prioritize a response to an incoming message. Historical conversations between customers and agents are retrieved. Each conversation has associated features and an assigned priority. Features are categorized into a plurality of categories. A priority is assigned to each category based on the features and the cumulative priority of all conversations in each category. Thereafter, an incoming message is received from a customer's computing device. Features are extracted from the incoming message. A determination is then made as to which of the categories this incoming message belongs based on this message's features. A priority is then assigned to the incoming message based on a priority assigned to the category which the incoming message belongs. The priority is then displayed for a customer agent so the agent can prioritize his/her response to that customer's incoming message.
