    • The disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for activating destruction of window glass. In one embodiment, the disclosure relates to a method for remotely destroying a glass by providing a glass window having a resonant vibration frequency; identifying a frequency channel on the glass window; positioning a resonator at or near the embedded frequency channel, the resonator providing one of an acoustical vibration or mechanical vibration to the glass window, the acoustical vibration or mechanical vibration substantially matching the resonant frequency of the glass window; detecting an external event necessitating destruction of the window glass; activating the resonator to deliver the acoustical vibration or mechanical vibration substantially matching the resonant frequency of the glass to the frequency channel.

    • The present invention provides a universal information appliance management system capable of executing transactions, including financial transactions, across a distributed network. The present invention allows content/service providers to control distribution of the content or services they furnish, and provides novel business process features such as automatic micro-billing of events and instances wherein minuscule requests and tasks of very low value may be billed and monies collected where doing so was otherwise impractical. The information appliance management system also provides dynamic support for multiple simultaneous payment algorithms and for easily modifying or updating the payment algorithms as desired. Further, the present invention provides for automatic offline or online transactions with deferred connections such that payment for a transaction may be secured prior to actually completing the transaction such that the user may obtain the paid for content even without an immediate network connection. Additionally, the present invention provides central authentication of objects of the system such that one object may verify the validity of any other object.

    • A convergence system suitable for accepting inputs from several television or personal computing sources is disclosed. The sources can be output on a display. The convergence system is controlled by a multi-function controller suitable for providing a set of function commands. A processor is coupled to the inputs, display and operably coupled to the controller wherein the processor responds to the function commands provided by the controller. The processor also creates for output on the display a set of channel banners. At least one of the channel banners provides information on available processor functions and provides video feed-back when the processor is responding to the function commands.

    • Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for RSS content administration for rendering RSS content on a digital audio player. Embodiments include retrieving, through an RSS feed, RSS content; extracting text from the RSS content; creating a media file; and storing the extracted text of the RSS content as metadata associated with the media file. Embodiments also typically include extracting one or more images from the RSS content; and storing the extracted images as metadata associated with the media file. Embodiments also typically include extracting text from the RSS content for audio rendering on the digital audio player; converting the text to speech; and recording the speech in the audio portion of the media file. Many embodiments also include storing the media file on a digital audio player; displaying the metadata describing the media file; and playing the audio portion containing the speech.

    • Methods 300 and systems 400 are provided for creating customizable user interface wrappers for a web application using a software development platform with a plug-in architecture 100. The development platform is used to create one or more declarative descriptions in a predefined plug-in format which define the customized user interface. The declarative description is accessed to generate the user interface wrapper, and the web application is enabled to operate using the user interface wrapper. The declarative description may be in the form of an XML file implemented as an extension listed in an extension directory of a plug-in. The attributes specified in the declarative description may be tailored to run the web application on a given platform, such as an operating system implemented on a predefined type of computer.
