[Also in Division F2] A device for entraining a liquid into a gas stream comprises a Venturi or like constriction, in a gas inlet-outlet passage, the liquid being forced into the constriction from a reservoir by the pressure of the gas communicated to the reservoir from a point remote from the throat of the constriction, and being entrained by thegas flowing through the constriction, and a by-pass passage around the constriction with a valve therein which opens when the flow of gas at the outlet connection exceeds a predetermined amount. The application of the invention to a lubricator for pneumatic tools is described wherein the lubricator has a gas flow passageway 48 1 (Figs. 1, 2) with throat section 50 1 and a passage 60 1 having apertures 64 which serves to communicate the static gas pressure from a point downstream of the throat to a gas space 132 above the liquid in reservoir 124. The pressure differential between the throat 50 1 and gas space 132 causes liquid to flow up a dip tube 72 1 , past non return ball valve 78 1 , along passage 76 in reservoir head 14, into a central bore of an annular boss 80 having screwdriver-adjustable valve members 84 1 , 88, down discharge tube 94 to chamber 108, from whence it is dripped through bevel edged dispensing tube 104 1 to the throat 50 1 where it is atomized and entrained in the gas flow. If atomization is incomplete large size particles are collected on annular abutment 66 1 and scavenged down passage 60 1 to the reservoir. The by-pass passage includes a valve controlled passage 134, the space between a baffle plate 130 and the lubricant, and the passage 60 1 . The valve acts to normally close passage 134 and open it when the demand for gas exceeds a predetermined amount. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) there is also a gas passageway which communicates the incoming upstream gas pressure to the gas space above the lubricant whether or not the valve is closed.
