    • A device for supporting a ladder includes a frame (100) having front leg means (110) at the proximal end thereof, rear leg means (120) and means (8) at the distal end thereof to receive the ladder foot and cradle fixing means (12, 2, 3, 11, 20) between said proximal end thereof and said distal end thereof. A cradle (200) is also included having means (23) for rotatable attachment to opposite sides of said proximal end of said frame (100). Longitudinal cradling means (130) are disposed between said means (23) for rotatable attachment of said cradle (200) and the distal end of said cradle (200) and have means (300) for rotatable attachment of a ladder therebetween near said distal end of said cradle (200). Thus, the ladder can lie along the frame (100), or by pivoting the cradle and inserting it into means (8), be erected, The ladder may be attached to the cradle by an intermediate frame (300). The device may be supported on wheels, and outrigger struts be provided to stabilise the device when the ladder is erected.

    • 743,543. Fire-engines. LOMAS, Ltd., H. May 5, 1954 [May 6, 1953], No. 12553/53. Class 47 An extension ladder mounting for fire escape tenders comprises an inclined runway mounted on a fire tender, the lower end of the runway being provided with an extension tray movable rearwardly for loading purposes and with means for locking the tray and ladder in position, The ladder E, Figs. 1 and 3, is provided with brackets e carrying wheels e' adapted to run in channel or angle shaped runways a forming part of a frame A, and in runways b' of a sliding tray 8. The frame B is supported by a channel member B 1 prevented from lateral movement by plates b on the frame A. For mounting the ladder, the tray is drawn down to the extended position shown in chain lines. The upper end of the ladder is lifted on to the runways b 1 and the ladder is pushed up the runways b 1 and a until the lowermost wheels e' reach a bar E 1 over which they are lifted. The ladder and tray are then locked together by a pair of bolts D 2 on the tray engaging holes in the brackets e. The ladder and tray are then pushed further up as a unit until U-shaped members e 2 on the nose of the ladder engage clips a 3 on the runways a. The tray is then locked to the frame by a pair of spring bolts D on the frame engaging holes d in side-plates D' of the tray. In the lower position of the tray, the bolts D engage holes d'. According to the Provisional Specification, the tray in the retracted position lies under the frame and is locked by a lever or bolt on the tray engaging between lugs on or passing through holes in the frame and secured thereto by a pin or clip. A lever pivoted on the lower end of the tray engages lugs on the ladder to lock the latter to the tray.
