摘要： 168,078. Savage, J. C. Feb. 23, 1920. Visible non-luminous signals.-Relates to the utilization of aircraft for advertising and amusement and for scientific demonstration and like purposes by the formation of a visible trail of smoke, &c. The smoke &c. is formed by the admixture of different materials contained in two or more receptacles 2, 10. The receptacle 2 is fitted with valves 3, 3*, one of which is controlled by the pilot. The material in the receptacle 2, when released, enters a passage 6 along which it is blown by an air stream collected by a shoot 7, and emerges into space at the rear end of the passage 6. The substance in the receptacle 10 is admitted by a tap 11 into exhaust pipes 9 which terminate near the nozzle of the passage 6. The substances in the receptacles 2, 10 may be solid, liquid or gaseous, the essential requirement being that they produce a visible smoke effect by mixing or chemically reacting with one another. Oil contained in the receptacle 10 vaporized by the exhaust gases in the pipes 9 and mixed with powdered carbon from the receptacle 2 are described. By suitably arranging the nozzles an aircraft may be given the appearance of being in flames.

摘要： Alcohol gels sheathed with a cellulose enclosure of the "industrial delicatessen" type, optionally protected by a lightweight grid or screen, enabling them to be arranged according to a desired graphic shape or to be stretched between two carrier members. These alcohol gels have their flames coloured by the addition before and/or during the process of gelling of suitable metal salts. The gelling will preferably be done by introducing granules of a cellulose ether of the hydroxypropylated methyl cellulose type and the thickening of the organic solvent(s) will be done by stirring. The combustion of the gels will be increased by adding chlorates or, preferably, perchlorates.
